Re: Dream Concert

Did anyone else from here attend the Petra/Whitecross/Stryper show this past weekend in Indianapolis? If so, what did you think? Below are some of my thoughts: Petra put on a solid performance, but I was *shocked* to hear them cover Aerosmith's "Livin' On The Edge" (which sounded excellent, by the w...

My new album: "We Wish You a Merry ROCKIN' Christmas"

Hey everyone! I don't post here very often at all, but check in almost daily. I'm an engineer by day and musician by night - and have been a Petra fan for a long time. I had the privilege (and joy!) of helping to promote one of Petra's shows on its Farewell Tour (in Youngstown, Ohio). I've also back...

Re: Petra 33's and other Hartman guitars

At the risk of sounding like a Carvin salesman (haha), here's a little background information: Carvin is what many people call "the best kept secret" in guitars, mainly due to the fact that you cannot buy new Carvin instruments in typical music stores. You can only get them directly from the factory...

Re: Petra 33's and other Hartman guitars

I, too, own a blue Petra 33. I bought one from Bob when we hosted Petra in Youngstown, Ohio on its Farewell Tour. It's a decent guitar, but I very rarely play it - partly because it's autographed by everyone in the band at the time, and also because it's not as versatile as the other guitars I own. ...

Re: John's new CD

There are some guys that don't have to work really, like Mutt, Bruce F, etc. "Bruce F" as in Bruce Fairbairn? He hasn't exactly been able to work in about 12 years - since he passed away on May 17, 1999 while working on Yes' "The Ladder" album. I enjoy many of Bruce's productions, especially Bon Jo...

Re: What happened to Pete Orta in this video?...

I'm pretty sure John called Orta out for being in the band "for the wrong reasons," or something like that, which to me sounded like he wanted the rock lifestyle and couldn't have cared less about the ministry. I'm fairly certain the original quote you're referring to from John was regarding David ...

"Rockin' Around the Town Square" Christmas rock concerts

I've been lurking around here for quite some time, though I rarely post. Some of you may remember me from promoting Petra's November 13th stop in Youngstown, Ohio for its Farewell Tour in 2005. For anyone who lives near Northeast Ohio and enjoys rocked up renditions of popular Christmas carols, I'm ...

Re: Angel of Light and Grave Robber Now Added to Samples

I'll admit John sounded a lot better on J&H then he did on Farewell. But the main problem with Farewell was that it was a bad mix to begin with. When I brought Petra to Youngstown, Ohio for the November 13th stop of its Farewell Tour, John, Bob and I talked about the (then-upcoming) "Farewell" albu...

I got it at the beginning of last week and dig it. At first I didn't like it as much, but over the past week it's really grown on me. However, I would still like to hear John on a harder rockin' record. 8) I'll also add that, like Jekyll & Hyde , the new album seems too short; by the time it was fin...

Surfing through John's website, I just noticed that the Petra show is no longer listed on the Tour Dates section (although it IS still listed on the Legends Festival site) - is this just a typo, or does this mean that Petra will not be reuniting for this one show after all?

Have you heard of a band called Rhapsody? The band's name is no longer "Rhapsody" - due to copyright/trademark issues, it was changed last year to "Rhapsody of Fire" - and yes, I enjoy Rhapsody very much (I actually own the band's entire discography, plus most of Luca Turilli's solo releases, and a...

Sonata Arctica--an AMAZING melodic metal band from Finland. If you guys like Petra, you'll most likely like them. I insist you check them out!!! Wow - I didn't think I'd see someone else here that is into European power metal. :) I am actually somewhat disappointed with Sonata Arctica's new album U...

If your church pays annually for a CCLI (Christian Copyright Licensing International) license, then it already has the ability to legally play Petra's music. In fact, the CCLI license allows Christian non-profit organizations to perform the music and to display the lyrics (as in on a projector scree...

Answers to questions: 1. No... John & team are still writing for it. From the way John talked to me at our Petra show in Youngstown last year, I was under the impression that he practically had a complete solo album written and recorded for a few years, and that it just needed some additional "fina...
