Re: Debunking Petra Myths

O.K. I see what you're saying. There is something cynical about celebrating your past when trying to promote the message of Christ. It's the main reason I'm not a big fan of the "personal testimony" brand of evangelism.

Re: Debunking Petra Myths

It's too bad that Christians feel the need to make their near misses in the world a selling point, to legitimize themselves. I don't know about that. The Apostle Paul talked at length about his qualifications as a pharisee as a way of contrasting his humble servitude to Christ, which is more or les...

Re: Petra TAB

Not to be flippant, but have you tried Google?

On that note, I once emailed Bob Hartman and asked him if he had ever considered writing an official Petra tablature songbook. His response was that it was unlikely to happen since he didn't even know how to write tablature.

Re: Debunking Petra Myths

The only myth I'm not entirely clear on is Greg Volz's involvement with REO Speedwagon. I've heard so many different versions from so many different sources that I'm not sure what the real deal is. -An official Petra songbook from the 80's states that Volz rejected an offer from REO Speedwagon to be...

Re: Classic Petra Promo... OOPS!

Wow.. that's bad. Someone tell them to fix that asap. I'm pretty sure that if Bob knows about that he will go nuts. I doubt it. It's a minor mistake and one that only hardcore Petra fans will notice or even care about (I thought it was hilarious). At the end of the day the show is still bein...

Greg Volz can sure do one heck of a John Schlitt impersonation.

Re: Classic Petra - The Upcoming New Album.

Well, regardless of what anyone says, Petra always will be my favorite Christian band. They're my favorite band, too. Nobody is trying to dissuade you. We're simply commenting on the realities of album production. Well, when I make my band, I'll be the producer so all the people who are in my band ...

Re: Classic Petra - The Upcoming New Album.

So let me ask this question, why would a drummer be bad in a studio but really good live? Does a studio not put the kind of pressure on them like a live crowd would? Didn't Louie play on Brent's PDC albums? He sounded fine for that. Please explain these things. It's not just drummers. A lot of arti...

Re: Classic Petra - The Upcoming New Album.

It's not uncommon for session musicians to be brought in for a studio recording. In fact a lot of people might be surprised how bad their favorite artist is in studio compared to a live performance. The original drummer for The Beatles, Pete Best, was in this boat. He was by most accounts passable ...

Re: CP-New Record

The E brothers and John Lawry completely excluded Louie from all of those albums except for overdubbing cymbals and playing syncopated hi-hat stuff. You are not bashing them? What are you talking about?? Louie Weaver is listed as the ONLY drummer on all of the Elefante albums. And I personally love...

Re: No Louie

Wondered if tension had surfaced between Louie and the rest again. It has happened before, but ever since the dismissal emotions run higher. As I understand it, the "tension", if you could call it that, was primarily between Louie and John Schlitt who was band leader in 90s when Louie was fired. An...

Re: Is Anyone Else Amazed by Bob?

Dare we bring up Petra's checkered history with "flashy" guitar players? David Lichens and Pete Orta were all about flash, at least when it came to their onstage antics, but they weren't exactly tearing it up musically.
