Those references are all fine for you I guess, but I don't care much for the lyric. Rocks and trees do not praise much where I come from. If I am thinking of describing a moment that is truly epic, I would not mention trees and rocks crying out. Cross reference all you like, it still sounds like the song " I am I said" where no one says a word, "not even the chair." The guitar solo, however is really awesome.

Everyone has their own opinon about lyrics. However Bob writes stuff from the Bible, Petra has strong lyrics, that's part of what makes a Petra song, a Petra song! No way to get around it.

I think it is truly amazing that nature will cry out praise to God. I also think that is why Bob is one of the best songwriters of our time, because he uses Scripture to get his words out.rexreed wrote:Those references are all fine for you I guess, but I don't care much for the lyric. I love the solos in "I Love the Lord" and "The Battle Belongs to the Lord" from Petra Praise 1- only problem is they are way too short (understandably, since it was a praise album)!

I don't want to hijack this thread but I have to mention that Sight Unseen is in desperate need of a guitar solo- it could have turned that song into one of the all time greats.

The best one - two punch IMHO was "All Fired Up" followed by "Hit You Where You Live" from On Fire.
The first time I heard this combination, I was floored!

I think the best 1-2-3 punch ever is "All Fired Up" , "Hit You Where You Live" and then "Mine Field" All three have great solos in them.RockOn wrote:The best one - two punch IMHO was "All Fired Up" followed by "Hit You Where You Live" from On Fire.

Re: Bob's top 10 Guitar solos.
My thought is that all the truly great albums have three or more consecutive songs that are just incredibly awesome. All Fired Up/Hit You.../Mine Field, for example. Beat the System/Computer Brains/Clean/It Is Finished, for another. Armed and Dangerous/I Am on the Rock/Creed. Dance/Secret Weapon/Sight Unseen.
You can have a great album without three consecutive awesome songs, but it just seems like most of my favorite albums have at least 12-15 straight minutes of awesomeness on them before stopping for breath.

Speaking of ON Fire, Counsel of the Holy has a real sizzlin', yet smooth sounding solo. I like the one in Whole World too. Bob's got a vast stylistic and musical vocabulary that he draws from. That's why I don't get bored listening to his stuff after all this time. He's no speed player for sure, but he knows how to get the right note, at the right place, at the right time. The solos always have sweet spots, not just a continuous blur of scales and notes.

Yes, the Best 1-2-3 punch is in the On Fire! Album but the Best 1-2-3-4 punch is : Perfect World-Test of Time-I Will Seek You-Life As We Know It. Truly awesome... I think that the only weak point in that 1-2-3-4-EarthShacking Musical Punch are the solo's, but they are (possibly) the most powerful line of songs in any Petra Album... Thanks Bob for that songs.
