I like Bob. He has a certain style that is appealing to me, because I hear other players I like through him. Is he the best rock guitar player of all time? I don't even think so. Is he the best in CCM, probably. Is he Petra? Absolutely.

I remember in an interview John Schlitt once described Bob Hartman. He said something to the effect of Bob isn't flashy, he doesn't jump around, he doesn't draw attention to himself, he just stands off to the side and quietly does his thing and does it really, really well.

That's good description of Bob- but I wish he were just a little more flashy, on stage. I'm not really amazed by Bob- he plays the guitar really good, like a pro, which is what I expect.

I'm really not into flash that much, Bob is a solid player with alot of great low end sound qualities; plus his solos are a work of art.

Dare we bring up Petra's checkered history with "flashy" guitar players? David Lichens and Pete Orta were all about flash, at least when it came to their onstage antics, but they weren't exactly tearing it up musically.

I always thought Bob's greatest strength was his songwriting. Musically, on that level he reigns supreme in my opinion.

Thats what first attracted me to Petra was Bob's playing. I agree with what you all have said, I think he was awesome. I still do, two decades later.

John Schlitt - "Guys, first of all, never be a singer, because you get no respect"
Ronnie - "You don't have that problem though, your not a singer..."
