A great (I think) way to quench everyone's LIVE CD thirst!
Hi everyone...
I linger in and out of here a bit now and then still. How're y'all doin'?
Anyways...here's what I would do if I was Petra with regards to the Live CD dilemma. We all know that (most likely) a full-fledged live CD is probably out of the question. However, there are so many bands using the Instant Live Concerts product these days, why couldn't we/they/us set up something similar as a treat for the Petheads around the world? It wouldn't cost Petra anything except for some upfront costs that could be passed on to the consumers.
I dunno how much these things usually cost cause I've never actually done it but it could be done pretty easily I think.
I also dunno if we would want to see the guys use the "official" Instant Live Concerts company because I know nothing about their company. However, if a medium to large sized church can do this for weekly sermons, why couldn't Petra do the same?
Maybe someone with some "clout" could pass it on to the guys?
If you aren't familiar with what I'm speaking of, here is the link to the secular company's site.

Online sales...
...hmmm...that's a good way to do it also. They could do it either way depending upon their preference. I think I would prefer to order and pick up at the show but others might like the other option.
I looks like some bands offer it both ways too!
Like I said before, while expensive in some ways, not nearly as expensive (or unlikely) as an inPop produced one.
Keep the momentum on this one folks!

Sounds good
Something needs to be done one way or another. I just can't imagine allowing this legendary band to slip into the sunset with just a wimper and not a bang. Petra deserves a first class send off. All of CCM should be getting behind this the way that the secular industry gives major farwells to thier legendary bands, but I think we all know that's not going to happen. So, I think it's going to be up to us Petheads to have faith enough to move a mountain.

You are correct Spottucas, When Inpop said lets do another album after Revival I remember InpopJames coming on here and saying it was a 2 record deal. So JAH was one so what is going to happen with the other. If it's a best of album how are they going to get the rights to all those songs from Star Song and Word? Kirkman has been quoted as saying on his message board as saying " I have no confirmation on this but in my gut I feel they will do some type live CD"

Well, that's more or less what I said.executioner wrote:Kirkman has been quoted as saying on his message board as saying " I have no confirmation on this but in my gut I feel they will do some type live CD"
The band members are pessimistic about the plans for a live album. But I have a feeling Inpop is gong to try to make a big deal out of this final year. I really believe they can capitalize on it if they do it right. But if they're going to do something, I hope they announce it soon.

Instant Live CD
Newsboys did about five shows a year or two ago that went direct to limited-issue CDs that you could buy after the show and listen to on the way home. So folks in the Inpop camp are definitely aware of the technology.

Re: Instant Live CD
And now, ClearChannel has paid off a patent judge in Texas, and now they have the rights to such technology and the process. Legally now, a church cannot record a CD, sell it as people walk out of the door, and not pay ClearChannel a royalty.Michael wrote:Newsboys did about five shows a year or two ago that went direct to limited-issue CDs that you could buy after the show and listen to on the way home. The company that started developing the streaming software for this was too public and didn't patent it properly.
It is done, though, and has been done for years (since the 70's with cassettes). I would not want a venue specific live show. I would rather that they track it at two or more shows, give us more music from the varying set lists, as opposed to limiting the song choices to one nights show. This will make for a longer, well rounded release. They can also fix/mix later, and make it MUCH better than mixing on the fly at the venue.

There was a Christian band that was doing that a few years ago... I think Watermark? They went so far as to offer people a board feed if there was one available.Mountain Man wrote:Too bad Petra can't just do like U2 and Grateful Dead and open up their concerts to bootleggers.

You can record video/audio at the shows now, unless the venue has a posting syaing that you cannot. In some markets, the venues are playing it safe and are freaked about lawsuits. Some have it permanently posted, because most artists have it in their contract.
The issue would be people selling them for profit. That is the only reason for them (Petra) to be upset, because they would get jipped out of publishing and sales royalties. The label would be upset as well.
The law has been flipped back and forth several times in the past two years, as a result of Bruce Springstien. He went after a guy who had a small chain on shops on the east coast, where he was selling bootlegged copies of shows. I was in one of these same stores in New Jersey. They had just about anything that you could ever want. So, the courts shut this guy down, and ruled that it is unlawful to sell bootlegs. It is lawful to swap.
If they were to come to Kansas City on their farewell tour, I would call the powers that be and get permission to hall out the mobile studio crap and record away. Then I would post the recording on my site for free down loading, as MP3's or a PodCast with their permission. Either that, or I would put it on as an endless loop on an internet radio station.
