I look forward to purchasing the cd. Once question though, in the release why is the word "Hear" capitalized?

Cuz that's how Rob's designer made it. Makes it stand out - see, it worked - you questioned it! ;-)

....uh, sooooo....I am placing $15 on May 08th being the day that I can find the album for free on the internet. The biggest mistake anyone can do now is to release CDs, files on the major download sites, or sites that use Flash. The best way to keep the money in the artists pockets is to get the money straight from the customer and then sending the customer a link with a pass.

I'm pretty sure that download only sales can be pirated just like a CD.

To date, the only way that the downloaded tracks can be pirated is if the people who have been given a link to download them belong to a torrent or post links themselves. If it happens now, we know if is from the inside so to speak. That is the point. Once they start selling discs and offering downloads, there will be tons of people getting it for free and justifying it.

Better not find it for free on the net!

No, the statement "Hear & Buy" means you will HEAR JOHN SING IT at Indy. And we'll be playing it during the breaktime sessions, like a listening party.

How does flash make the music downloadable? We don't have flash on jws.com, but I'm curious.

I'm assuming the only way to stop this is to regulate the internet?

Sue, any site that uses Flash can have the content recorded/copied from the Flash player. It's kind of a good thing Flash is dying and going away and more people use and support HTML5.

No, that would be impossible. The way to reduce it, not stop it, is to do what John and others are doing, and selling direct and providing customers a link and a pass code. If any files show up on the net, the artist knows where it came from. It is true that the customers can be joined to a torrent, which automatically copies and shares all of their files. There is nothing the artist can do about that. I cannot believe that people would still be stupid enough to do that.

All it takes is one person to "share" their downloaded purchased music and it can be made available to everyone. Really no benefit over cd's except for the manufacturing cost.
