Voice in the wind guitar solo

Post by Dan » Thu Feb 24, 2005 3:34 am

The guitar solo or bridge in the song "Voice in the wind" gives me chills down my spine.

In my opinion the strongest song on BTS. It Is Finished, Beat The System, and Adonoi are also very good. One of Petra's weakest albums though; too much programming and not enough straight ahead rock-n-roll.

In the Picture This band years, Star Song told us to go that way (electronic), because Petra was about to do it. So the band bought the stupid sounding Simmons electronic drums, keyboards, sequencers, crappier sounding amps, etc. I told the Star Song AR guy (Brian Lang) that it would be a big mistake IMO. Of course, he blew me off, cause I was a nobody (just a former DJ that knew what the requests and sales were for Petra songs/albums and major fan). At that time, the change was drastic. I thought that it was cool. But in time, it was such a drastic change, that it had no place to evolve. So they had to back track, and Bob told the label that he didn't like our European sound (that the brilliant minds at Star Song told us to aquire) so they shut us down.

Now that music is dated. The older stuff still holds up musically, I think anyway. You first records are your best, because they are you. After that success comes, you are shaped like a politician.

It sucked even worse! By far No Doubt is Petra's worst album. I can't stand the music, but the lyrics were good. IMO Petra lost alot of their fan base with that album, and they have never returned.

It's tough. You know Petra is no different than any other band. How differently can you say what you want, and play it so that in 3:30 people don't get board, and then be different, yet the same on the next record?

It's hard to please everyone. The joke back then when the boy bands came out, and Petra was trying to be musically relavent was, "Will we see John go away and see some baggy pant boys out front?" People will never accept anything less than Rock and/or Roll from Petra, whether it is popular or not.

The sad thing is that these guys aren't getting younger. It saddens me to think of them as a thing of the past. Like my friend Steve says, "All the good stuff is gone away." But the day will come. I hate growing old and not having MY BANDS.

I must diagree about No Doubt being the worst album. Double Take was by far the worst album. If you can actually call it an album.

I have seen a couple of folks bad-mouth No Doubt as being Petra's weakest album, lost fan base, etc. I have no idea about fan base, but I couldn't disagree more in this assessment of the album. It is my favorite album of all. And this opinion is from a fan who likes the vast majority of what Petra has put out.

To each his own, but I absolutely cannot understand this sentiment...

Several songs on "No Doubt" get me pumped up! The building intensity of "Enter In," the hard groove of "Think Twice," the catchy pop of "For All You're Worth," and, of course, the grungy crowd favorite "Right Place"!

I think because No Doubt isn't shimmering hairy pop-metal that people don't like it. Fans were lost, fans were gained. My fiancee was introduced to Petra via Double Take and counts the Pete-fronted "Breathe In" as her favorite Petra song.

No Doubt is a great CD, handsdown. I don't understand why anyone would not like it. In fact, the song "No Doubt" is a sentimental song for me because I was going through my divorce when this CD came out - and this song especially - helped my through a really rough time in my life. It was exactly what I needed at the time. And, I thought the CD was very well done, overall. I consider it one of my favorites.
