He still sounds great, but they did tune down. Maybe that is the difference you are hearing. The good thing about that is Bob's guitars and the bass will have more meat tuned down.

I noticed the same thing, but this is a premastered version and good mix engineers dont send ME stuff thats already compressed like this. I think they boosted the signal and put a master limiter on there just to get the volume up for these demos. If they really are that squished....I won't be able to listen to the record.
I can point to hundreds of records where "good" engineers did pre smash mixes, because the artist wanted it this way. Ever hear of Metalica? Their last one was a good example. It was so smashed that the mastering engineer declined to master it because he did not want his name on it. There was nothing he could do with a pre smashed mix. It happens every day. Once something is compressed and the waveforms have been normalized and squared off, there is no changing it.

John Lawry recorded and mixed the whole thing in his studio.
Yea well, it becomes a sort of semantical argument, but I would say they arent good mixing engineers in that case. In cases where the artists are just retards... well I was kind of assuming Petra wouldn't be in that number. I can't stand "modern" production because of the over-compression, everything is forward in the mix, and an overall "sterile" feeling to the mixes. But just looking at the RMS and peak levels on this tracks, if these are the tracks sent for mastering, then its a poor job done by John L.

Ya, gotta say I'm not impressed with what I heard. It's like there is no life in those samples like in the original songs. I hope a new John Schlitt record pans out.

I think the people who have been looking forward to this will enjoy it and the people who have been panning it all along will continue to do so. Oh, it would be better if John were singing. Yeah, ok.

Yeah it would sound better with John, but we got what we have, and it is still pretty darn good. I would like to hear Bema Seat get some airplay..

I was listening to K-Love it's a Christian radio in AZ, and the CCM is mainly love song's.. not about God really.. just love songs about anything or anyone.

I guess I gotta hand it to you, at least you are willing to admit your bias.

Did you accidentally visit a "Barney Sings" website? This and other complaints stun me... I think I joined the wrong board... Should this be renamed thejohnzone for all the johnheads?

Heard the final mix down, this is as good as it gets. Don't expect anything to change.

Angel of Light is the best track hands down.
