Mark vs. Ronnie

Post by zman7720000 » Sun Nov 07, 2010 7:46 am

Okay enough with all this talk about John vs. Greg I think the real debate should be Mark vs. Ronnie, You know Ronnie uses a pick! Mark plays keyboards, see CITAS and if you look closely on the Whole World video you will see his bass has a tremolo on it.

I know Mark is awesome, but man I heard Ronnie do stuff that just took Petra to all knew areas. Listen to what they did with "I Am On The Rock" and "Think Twice" the bass just kicks butt.

A friend of mine who is an awesome Bass Player used to own a 7 string and a 8 string bass, and believe me he cooked on those things. But he ended up selling those and he got into Fenders and he told me, it's not about all the extras, it's about how well you can play. I've also had that mind set about Drums, when I play I can cook on a 4 piece, or a 3 piece or even just a snare and kick just as much as I can cook on a 9 or more piece drum set.

Ronny played that Synth Bass too, look at the 1988 Creation fest video.

Mark is a better Bass player imo.

We're talking about dancing in one of the other threads.

What in the heck kind of dance was Ronnie doing on the video "I Need to Hear from You"
There's a shot of John singng the first verse from the stage and it cuts to Ronnie as he ends up doing this weird step, I never could get what he was doing, looked a little fruty to me.

Mark. Definitely Mark. Excellent musician, loads of energy and sings incredibly, too.

I don't know who's better. But I recall that John said he had to adapt to having a new bass player when Ronny joined, because Ronny was moving around a lot more than Mark.

I think that had to do with stage presence, not playing ability. Before Ronnie, the band members mostly stayed in their comfort zone on stage. John S. and Greg moved around a lot. When Ronnie took Mark's spot, John had to adapt his movement so he didn't accidentally run into Ronnie during a concert.

I loved Ronnie - the energy he brought to the stage presence was always delightful (IMHO). He always looked so excited to be there.

I love MK's voice, and his playing is certainly top notch, but what was with the "pendulum swing" he was doing in CITAS (and most live performances I've seen on video)? I though I was watching a grandfather's clock or something. 8)

Does anyone know why they cut most of the footage from CITAS show Mark K playing synth bass keys?

I would guess it was either because of time or the footage might have not been good.

I didn't care for Ronnie's tone or the lack thereof. Of course, he was playing Peavey for a while. That might explain some of it :)

Ronnie was more hyper and did that gay boot scootin and side kickin stuff. He still does it.

Mark has a bit more soul I think. I prefer Mark. Plus, he is just a really nice guy.

There are only one or two songs where he did that IIRC.

Ronnie still has his moments though. I mean he was like a kid at the Toy Store back when he was with Petra, you look at the interviews back then and you could tell he was living out a dream.
