Too Big To Fail! CRANK IT UP!

Post by fcollazo » Sun Nov 14, 2010 9:45 am

Man, I love the two new songs. I know BTTR was Gregs, but so was PYTL. I love the arrangement of BTTR, Bob and Mark play some great lines that make the song, and Louie keeps the right Beat. Now just try this, get on a great stereo and crank TBTF and you will get a very heavy anthem with nice modern sound that has nothing to envy from current heavy bands. I did and got chills!, Petra is back and is taking no prisoners !

I'll have to do that when I buy the CD.

There is a version of Praise Ye The Lord floating around from the 70s performed by Greg and the E-band. It was not originally a Petra song Petra basically covered it so whats the big deal if Back To The Rock is a Greg solo song. I like it. I haven't heard the whole thing but the sample sounded good to me.

Something about Too Big to Fail actually reminds me of the sound they had on Wake Up Call, minus Schlitt of course. Which is interesting since that was the last time that the majority of this line up made music together.

Yeah it does sound like it. I wonder if this was an old song that just never ended up on a Petra album before, or if Bob just wrote it.

I don't think it's an old song that wasn't recorded. It's a take off on Obama saying companies are too big to fail. It's a recent catch phrase.

Yeah, I agree with that. I'm sure it's new. The sound similarity just caught my attention.

I think we have become so desperate to cling to anything with the Petra name on it we don't even care anymore if it Petra quality. This entire record is a let down.

To you maybe, but again.....Time will tell, History can't look back on something that is happening right now. History only looks back at things that are in the past. We'll see what this does to Petra in time.

True. Plus i'm sure it will grow on me over time. So far I've only listened to samples so I really shouldn't give an opinion before listening to the entire album.

I honestly think the quality is good, so I'm not sure if that's the problem.... I think it might be the whole idea of re-recording classics that might be why you suspect the quality is lacking. Musically, the band is tight. The production and recording is also top-notch, and I, for one, like the album. There are certainly things I would have done differently if I'd been producing this album, but I've chosen to focus on the good things about the album.

For me, this song is much better than Back To The Rock.

Honestly, if Greg was gonna bring a song to the table, in my opinion, he has better songs he could have brought. "No Greater Love" for example. However, this isn't a terrible song by any means and now that it's been beefed up and Petrafied it's even better. Yeah, I agree, "Too Big To Fail" is a much better song, but on the whole, Bob's song crafting skills have always been superior to Greg's, so that doesn't surprise me. Greg has those three real gems that appeared on NSD and MPTY, but beyond those I really don't think he's ever written songs on the same level as Bob. Greg's always been better at singing than writing.

HOLY CRAP!!!! Finally got around to listening to Too Big to Fail...totally get the Wake Up Call connection...it definitely has that vibe. Man...makes me want to tell them to quit re-recording the hits and just concentrate on writing us a whole albums of stuff like that!!! Wow!

I think that maybe without question the most rockin Volz Petra tune ever!
