Favorite version of Grave Robber
Favorite version of Grave Robber
Well, we have five versions of Grave Robber and I have to say I like the original studio recording the best over the CITAS, Farewell, back to the Rock, and Back to the Rock live versions. Any opinions?

I agree, the original recording is the best. Then again I like all the originals better than the BTTR remakes.

I made a little mix for you - Grave Robber through the years:
http://boray.wontek.net/petra/Petra_AllGraveRobbers.mp3
To fit them together I had to lower the original version and Captured in T&S by half a semitone and rise the Farewell, Back to the rock and Back to the rock live versions by half a semitone. The Farewell and Back to the Rock versions were also EQ'd.

I do love those intro guitars on the original. But interestingly enough, I found I liked all the versions presented in the mix linked above. Not surprising I guess... =)

I agree, for me the original version is the best.

No question the original is clearly the best; all other versions are really weak. I feel the same way about Rose Colored; the new CP version is *%%-(#.

I dont know why they left the bgvs out of the classic petra version of rose colored stained glass windows

that is probably the one remake I dislike the most. It lost its organic feel.fcollazo wrote:I dont know why they left the bgvs out of the classic petra version of rose colored stained glass windows

Re: Favorite version of Grave Robber
Somebody answer me this. Why since Farewell do I need to by these so called professionally made albums and manipulte the songs in an audio editing software to clear up the muddy muffled sound? Surely I don't know as much as a professional that mixes and masters music? Yet Farewell and Back to the Rock sound better after I have spent hours running the songs thru audio software and tweaking the gain and EQ. It's really ludicrous when you think about it. What the !@#* happened after Jekyll and Hyde? The sound of Farewell and Back to the Rock, live or studio, can't possibly sound good to Bob or anyone else in Petra.

Maybe they have lost their ability to hear high frequencies (with age and hearing loss from all those years on stage) so they simply can't hear any difference...

I hate the drum sounds on J&H, they are so boombastic and unnatural. The best Petra drum sounds are on God fixation, revival and back to the rock.

Re: Favorite version of Grave Robber
The drums on JAH fit the vibe of the album. I do like the sound of the drums on Godfixation, but hear nothing special on Revival. The drums on BTTR are too light hitting and really don't add to the sound of the album. The best sounding drums are on WUC & UP.

I always felt like they had a touch of metal to them, that might be why I like the way they sound.fcollazo wrote:UP sounds fake

The one thing that has always disturbed me is that there is really no "Petra sound". Every record was so different in sound.
