Great. A communist was involved with InPoop Records. Par for the course.

You don't seem to understand the difference between socialists and communists.

And, he wasn't pushing things from the Inpop side, but from the   Petra side... Oh no, wait, are they commies? Bring out the guns!

Socialism is a progression and integral part to communism. Socialism is key to equalizing suffering so that it is experienced by all, on such a grand level, that communism sounds like a relief.

The goal of socialism is communism. Vladimir Lenin

Ah, that's where your flawed definition comes from.

So this is your line of reasoning:

If communists say they're socialists, we should call all socialists communists.

Let's see where this leads us:

If scientologists say they're Christians, we should call all Christians scientologists?

Come on, Brent, you can do better than that.

Socialism, as well as its synonym communism, is a continuum. Every human, save for a few with extreme mental disorders, is socialist to some degree. We all rely upon others and place importance on various social structures (family, faith community, friends, businesses, etc.) to work together to achieve what we hold dear.

Society involves socialism. Ideas and structures may be socialist without devolving into the perverse system of enslavement and murder that were the hallmarks of most communist regimes, including the one in the USSR that murdered dozens of my family members and sent hundreds more into gulags.

I guess that my main point is that socialism/communism versus individualism is a continuum, not a binary choice. The extreme ends of this continuum are widely regarded as undesirable. Extreme socialism becomes an ideology that destroys the hopes and dreams of the people in order to preserve its socialist ideals. At the political level, this is what has been achieved in extreme socialist countries, most visibly in China and the former USSR. Extreme individualism becomes an ideology that destroys the hopes and dreams of the people in order to preserve its individualist ideals. Politically, this is called anarchism if all individuals have the right to unfettered individualism. Invariably, however, some people always gain the power to sacrifice the individualism of others in favor their own individualism, and you end up with a feudal system, like Tsarist Russia.

The irony of what Lenin and his fellow communists achieved is that by replacing one end of continuum (extreme individualism/feudalism) with the other end (extreme socialism), they created a system that was every bit as repressive, probably more so because of the scale on which it was carried out.

In the context of the socialist movement and Bernie Sanders, who is a Communist at heart, with a long history of ties to communist organizations since '64, socialism IS the desired progression to communism here in the USA. If Bernie wins, he will pick up where Obama left off, taking us further down the hole.

I don't think that there is any danger of the USA becoming a communist state through it's current democratic institutions. However, we are already seeing the effects that gerrymandering has had over the last several generations in ensuring that every election is split almost 50/50 between Dems and GOP. I can imagine a future (a century from now? longer?), however, when divisions become so deep that civil war breaks out. If the USA disintegrates under the weight of divisiveness, all bets are off in terms what kind of governance various regions will have.

Every great empire has faded over time, but it would be nice if the USA could postpone that decline for as long as possible.

It really doesn't matter if socialism is communism, since neither work. Practically speaking, Socialism=starving the nation relatively slowly, Communism=starving the nation KILLER FAST. You can never get something for nothing.

So will Hillary. Remember the debate where neither one of them could name any meaningful differences between Democrats and socialists? The Democrats are socialists in every corrupt and oppressive sense of the word.

Petra's Twitter staff just tweeted about Inpop releasing Jekyll & Hyde on vinyl. Nothing at Inpop's site or petraband.com...

p-freak wrote:Nope. I think it was supposed to be a kind of license sort of deal. It certainly wasn't an initiative from Inpop Records, so they didn't carry the idea forward when the guy who started the project took off and disappeared off the map.
Thank you for your reply, but if that is true then how do you explain this?
