Poll: God Fixation (1998)
Who's fixated on this one?
Didja know... after seeing how the new members could contribute to the music, Bob Hartman said "Great, I don't have to write songs anymore... All I gotta do is come up with the words."
Also, as it has been with other polls, I can only post 10 entries, so anyone that would like to vote for #11. The Invitation, just say it.

Re: Poll: God Fixation (1998)
This is an awkward album for me, mostly because I really, really like 5-6 songs from it, but I really don't care much about the others. To me, it has some pretty good "highs", but its "lows" are among the lowest from the band.
I voted for "St. Augustine's Pears", but I really could've voted for any of the following: "If I Had to Die for Someone", "Set for Life", "God Fixation", or "The Invitation". I love all those songs. Also, I remember not caring much about "Falling Up" at first, but I've warmed up to it, and it's one of my favorites from the album as well.
As for the rest, I really don't care that much. The weakest for me is probably "Over the Horizon", but "Hello Again" is down there too. Meh.

Never liked the rockers on this one. St. Augustine's Pears is almost a great song for me. So I vote Falling Up.

I like Pears the best of all, by a wide margin.

If I rated my albums, this would be on the lower end.
Some good songs on it, but I really love the feel of "Falling-up", both lyrically and musically.
However, Magnet of the World, the Invitation, Over the Horizon and Set for Life all get skipped when I'm listening to it.

Never really has been a favorite of mine, but its a good listen at times. I voted for "If I Had To Die". The lyrical content throughout the album is really some of Petra's strongest lyrics, but too me most songs just sound bland and the same. I will say that I love how the bridge on each song puts a bite into the songs.

Curiously enough, St. Augustine didn't really like Pears that well.pmal wrote:I like Pears the best of all, by a wide margin.

By this time, it appeared to me that the band was losing it. Where was Bob? The music was all over the place and it just seemed like without John's voice, you wouldn't recognize this as Petra music. With that being said, my favorite song on the album is "St. Augustine's Pears".

Re: Poll: God Fixation (1998)
Petra had already disbanded by this point; there was just some other band using that name. It would make more sense to me if they had marked all the albums from 1996-2001 as John Schlitt solo albums, considering the only other Petra member left was Weaver, who admittedly didn't affect their sound much. My brother got God Fixation, and played some of the songs for me, but I've never actually made it through the whole thing. One of those things I'd only listen to to remind myself why I didn't like it.
