Oh brother. Who cares? It's not like all of this stuff isn't available already. This is all about the owners of the masters cashing in on their assets. At least they are in good company: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:2 ... ers_albums

What I find most interesting is that the picture on the cover is not representative of who actually appears in most of those songs. Looks like "He Came, He Saw, He Conquered" and "This Means War!" are the only two with that specific line-up.

It seems to be their standard stock picture. It is featured on The Early Years, both the original 1996 version and the 2006 repackaged version and it was on the first mock-ups for The Ultimate Collection. It shows a complete lack of knowledge, imagination and interest.

Or it shows that it's the only image the publisher has the rights to use.

If they can afford the rights to Petra's catalog, they can afford the rights to a 50 cent image.

This IS the company that owns the masters. They likely don't give a crap about the pic. This pic has been around a long time, used on multiple releases. When it comes to selling a compilation, the art work really doesn't matter. The people buying this will most likely be people who have an awareness of Petra. These things get slapped together with minimum cost.

I can't imagine why anyone would want a compilation anyway. I can't stand them. There just dumb things that get in the way of the real stuff on ebay... I would request that record companies would stop making them already!

It wouldn't be representative if they used any band photo. By my reckoning, the most songs on this collection represented by any lineup is 4: MPTY, Judas' Kiss, RCSGW and Bema Seat.

To be fair, the lineup pictured was their most successful lineup, recording 5 albums.

I know everyone is tired of the compilations, but I say "Finally!"

I've been waiting for this one. If we could erase Petraphonics, Petrafied, Power Praise, Petra Means Rock, The Rock Block, Still Means War, Petra Praise Collection, Ultimate Collection, The Best of the 80s, The Early Years and others. The only 3 compilations I feel should ever have been released was War & Remembrance, Petra 40, and this one 20th Century Masters. The reason I say this is because this one puts Petra right there where they belong with the other 20th Century Masters artists. So I say this one is a good call on the company. It's just sad that we had to go through all these other collections over the years.

Not necessarily (and you're assuming that the rights to other images are easily bought).

Here's an odd example for you: the Laurel and Hardy sound film collection is owned by RHI Studios in the US, but promotional material like stills and film posters are owned by a different company. When RHI wanted to release a box set a couple of years ago, the company that owns the promotional items refused to part with them cheaply, so RHI did a Photoshop chop-job to combine various images from the films in order to create a unique cover image of "the boys". Strangely, the silent film collection is owned by another party entirely, and last report was that the original film elements are unfortunately rotting in his garage (literally).

I wouldn't be surprised if Petra's history is similar, and that some people with unique photos and the like are overestimating their value.

I hate to spoil your party, but I believe that the 20th Century Masters collection has really undergone quite some erosion if you look at this list of upcoming releases: http://www.capitolchristiandistribution ... %20masters. To me it looks like they just hijacked the series for CCM.
