CPR

Post by John Boy » Tue Nov 08, 2016 7:10 pm

I'm not sure if I did this correctly. I attached a picture I saw from a Ronny Cates Facebook post he shared of a Greg X. Volz Facebook post. Did that make sense? I'm tired and on cold medicine. Anyway, CPR? Ronny sharing a Greg post? Any ideas?

John Lawry commented "No. This is not Classic Petra".

He later commented

"I'm in the studio producing it. We just started a coupe if weeks ago. Expect a, release early part of next year."

and

"Bob is an amazing guitarist and talented and an integral member of Classic Petra. And Petra. A person I love and respect dearly. This is a new band."

I didn't recognize who Kirk Henderson was but he has worked with Greg X Volz a lot and played on his solo albums. I'm not sure if he toured with Greg in the 80's but if he has then I've maybe heard him live even.

So, this is a kind of Petra, but without Bob Hartman. I would guess Greg, Ronny and John stands for the songwriting.

I think this is cool anyway and look forward to it. Funny with Greg and Ronny working together and wasn't even in Petra at the same time.

I might be looking at the wrong thread. Didn't see them on the original post on Volz' page, but it looks you were referring to comments to a share/repost of that original post.

Interesting to see Kirk Henderson on the list. The only without Petra credentials.

Kirk Henderson is a buddy of mine. He's been covered extensively in The Petra Zone. To learn more about him and Greg's post-Petra solo band, do a "Search" for him and "Pieces of Eight" on here.

Kirk Henderson was also part of a band that would later become King's X with Ty Tabor, Doug Pinnick and Jerry Gaskill.

What does CPR stand for? Sounds like they didn't want to do business with Bob...

Probably 'cause Bob likes to MAKE money and Classic Petra didn't really. Word is they were forced to keep going as long as they did to work off the TBN video shoot and media production debt.

From a facebook comment by Ronny Cates, this seems to be basically Back to the Rock part II. New recordings of old Petra songs. I was hoping for 100% new stuff, but well... wasn't this what was planned from the beginning and they had a contract for? That Back to the rock should be followed up by a "part 2"?

Where's Mark Kelly? ( I actually remember asking that same question in '88 when I picked up my brand new copy of "On Fire") I personally prefer Mark's bass style to Ronny's (just personal taste, no offense to Ronny)
