I don't mind the reference to Petra, because these are mostly Petra guys and mostly Petra songs. John Schlitts Petra band in the 90s had only two legit Petra members, none of which were Bob, and they covered Petra songs and got to call themselves Petra.
The difference is that Bob was still actively working with the band in the studio even if he was no longer the "face" on the album cover.

But, yeah, it's obvious that CPR is trying really hard to call themselves Petra without actually calling themselves Petra.

It doesn't say "Back to the Rock II", it says "Back to the Rock MINUS II". The same people who made back to the rock, minus two.

When they recorded the first Back to the rock, they said there would be a second album with more Petra songs. My guess is that this is what they are doing now but two of the people didn't feel up to it.

If this is Petra or not... well it's at least twice as many guys from Petra than "two guys from Petra".

Well said, but it makes you wonder why "Petra" loves the Roman numeral "II" so much.

In think they should have just called themselves X band or Greg X. The CPR name reminds me of GHF, LRB and other 3 letter acronym flops. Shame they can just use the name Petra because they are more Petra than any Petra lineup after 1996.

"X Band" sounds too much like a redux of King's X which Kirk Henderson is a past member. They could always go with the band name "Xavier" and call the album "II."

Interesting, because Greg Bailey has been with the band for about as long as either Mark Kelly or Ronny Cates. They just haven't recorded any albums in that time except for Farewell, and John Schlitt has been lead singer around 3x longer than Greg X. Volz. Then, of course, there's Bob Hartman who has been with the band since the beginning. So I'm not sure how you reason that CPR is somehow "more Petra" than the current touring line-up.

Of course this gets us into the debate of what makes Petra, Petra. Is it just a name, or is it a specific combination of musicians?

I was under the impression that Greg Bailey joined in 2002 until retirement in 2005, he is a great guy... 3 years is a long time. The Petra that is formed for the purpose doing a festivals every few years for me just isn't Petra... now that is just my feelings on it as I only like 1981 to 1994 before and after that blah.

I think it would make more sense to measure a member's presence in a band by recording and concert time rather than time "with the band". The current lineup is more of a theory than an actual thing. They sometimes exist, but usually just disappear.

I still hold that a band can only be considered Petra if Bob Hartman is in it... but that's just my opinion.

Technically Two Guys from Petra had three guys from Petra, because Jim Cooper did keyboards and BGVs.

I think anybody who has recorded with and/or toured with the band as more than just a one-off has a legitimate claim to being a member of Petra. But I'm also of the mind that any lineup that doesn't involve Bob Hartman in some active capacity (even if it's just in the studio) is not "real" Petra.

David Lichens, Pete Orta or Quinton Gibson could join CPR but it would not make it even a tiny bit more Petra to me. Not that they are bad musicians. They just did not make any lasting impact on the band in my opinion. I agree that there is far more Petra to CPR than some of Schlitt's lineups. But none are Petra.

Whenever anyone brings up this lineup of Petra, I always think of Coy & Vance.
