Post by yamasaaaki har har » Sat Sep 01, 2007 10:45 pm

Is it me, or did John Schlitt say "Warsh Whiter Than" on the Farewell DVD interview?

You mean they don't say "worsh" in Iowa!? Uh, I guess that would be the Central Illinois accent, then. I grew up in Peoria about 60 miles from John's hometown and I used to say "worsh" until I moved north. After getting tired of being made fun of, I changed my ways and began talking like a Chicagoan. The next time you see John get him to say "anniversary" and see how that one sounds.

It's definitely an ILLINOIS thing, not a Midwest term.

I've given him a hard time about that before... guess old habits die hard!

"Worsh" is said by the rural people in my province too. And by Coach Z.

THIS MEANS WARSH! And though both towels are drying...

Post by yamasaaaki har har » Wed Sep 05, 2007 9:16 pm

I don't really know any Illinois-ians so I don't know how they talk... but I have a bunch of friends and family members in Ohio. Some of them say "warsh" some don't. What's interesting is my dad's mom and sisters say "warsh" but my dad doesn't. Once I even heard someone in Ohio say "squarsh."

(by the way I prefer the spelling "warsh" over "worsh" because it's funnier)

Oh, and I'm from Iowa and I say "wash" the correct way. I think just about everyone else I know from Iowa does too. Not sure though...I don't get into conversations about washing too often...

....or conversations about warshing... whatever...

btw Coach Z is hilarious!! "a one-two! a one-two!"

I don't think it's exclusive to Illinois, as I have friends in the south that say it as well. My Grandparents always told us to 'worsh our clothes, hands, dishes, etc. Don't forget the President lives in Worshington, DC. :)

hilarious!
I was reared to say "warsh" - along with "shire" instead of "shower" - , but was mocked (by Alabamans, no less) for it. Do you know what it's like to be mocked by people from Alabama, about how you speak? Talk about the pot calling the kettle black! I changed my pronunciation rather quickly! WASH! :)

That's too funny... I have people ask me (while we talk on the phone) if I'm from CANADA.

HUH? I don't say aBOOT when I'm saying 'about!'

I think the Zone is turning into a linguistics class!
