Correction, computer brains was on War and remembrance.Matthew RJ wrote:We had better be careful lest we give one of the record companies a great idea for another "Best of" ... on the bright side, none of these songs have been on a Best of before (as opposed to all the songs on Petra Means Rock -vs- Rock Block )

Strange Song
I don't know if "Hand on my Heart" was suppose to be a joke or what, but if ever there was a song that had no business being on a Petra album, that was it.

And yet another reason to diss the Elfante's.sue d. wrote:I remember reading, or seeing someplace a story where John said that the Elefante's gave him a Smokey Robinson album and said "here - sing like this."
So he did.

The Wery Veirdest of Petwa
Hey, let's ask them to make a "weirdest of" compilation! They could call it something like Petra Means Weird or Beyond Weird and on it would be all the songs we mentioned here. And in the CD insert would be a bunch of pictures of Petra members making goofy faces or something.Matthew RJ wrote:We had better be careful lest we give one of the record companies a great idea for another "Best of" ...

"Computer Brains" was originally from "Beat The System". I was computer geek even back then, when 64K of RAM seemed like alot of memory. When I got my Commodore 128 (with a whopping 128K of memory) right around that time, I was the talk of my fellow high-school computer geeks.
So, I loved the whole techno-sound of Beat The System, and I loved the song "Computer Brains". But as for being "weird" ... it was the 1980s! ALL the music was "weird" by today's rather bland standards.
The "wierdest" song ... well, I would say "Friends" from Petra Praise. But I DESPISE that song. Ugh! If it had been the first Petra song I ever heard, I would probably never have becomer a fan. When I ripped that CD to my hard drive, I deliberately left out that song! I never want to hear it again!
But just because it's their WORST song, does that mean it's their weirdest? Well, not necessarily, but "Friends" also has that whole phoney du-wap thing going. Ick Ick Ick. Just thinking about it makes me want to clean out my ears. Bleah.
So, "Weirdest" in a bad way is definitely "Friends". But there's also "weird" in a good way. In that way, I like the Doxology instrumental on "Not Of This World". It's very unusual, but also very beautiful. I was raised Methodist, and I've always loved the traditional Doxology. The version of NoTW is sort of a spacey, cosmic twist. Weird, but beautiful too.
