Easter music

Post by Michael » Mon Apr 12, 2004 10:05 am

Last year I started compiling a CD of Easter music. That's what I started to do... it ultimately swelled to THREE CD's! There are a couple of Petra and John Schlitt songs on them, as well as a ton of old Sandi Patti and Michael Card songs. I actually created a FOURTH playlist for Easter morning, but never got it burned off for this year. Check out the current lineups:

DISC 1 - EVENTS
The Coloring Song (1981) - Petra
Known by the Scars - Michael Card
Hosanna - Michael W. Smith
Rise Again - Dallas Holm & Praise
Why - Michael Card
Via Dolorosa - Sandi Patti
This Must Be The Lamb - Michael Card
O Sacred Head, Now Wounded - First Call
They Could Not - Sandi Patti
Secret Ambition - Michael W. Smith
It Is Finished - Petra
King's Ransom - Petra
Shadow of the Cross (all sections) - Russ Taff
He's Not Here - Hero The Rock Opera
The Victor - Keith Green

DISC 2 - WORSHIP
Easter Song - Keith Green
O Calvary's Lamb - Sandi Patti
Agnus Dei - Michael W. Smith
Nothing But The Blood - Phil Keaggy
Lamb Of God - Mylon LeFevre & Broken Heart
Lamb of God - Hosanna! Music
Thank You, Lord! - Dennis Jernigan
The Day He Wore My Crown - Sandi Patti
Beneath The Cross Of Jesus (Instrumental) - Bryan Duncan
Near The Cross - Russ Taff
The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power - Clay Crosse
Crown Him With Many Crowns - Michael W. Smith
Lord, I Lift Your Name On High - Petra
These Thousand Hills - Jacob's Trouble
Easter Song - 2nd Chapter of Acts

DISC 3 - LIFE (basically... in light of this, how should we live?)
Crucified - Christafari
Words On The Wind - Randy Stonehill
All Over Me - Petra
Cross of Glory - Michael Card
We Are The Reason - Avalon
No One's Ever Died For Me Before - John Elefante
The Beauty of the Cross - Crystal Lewis
The Road To Calvary - John Schlitt
Asleep in the Light - Keith Green
Hope Of Glory - Randy Stonehill
I Now Live - Crystal Lewis
I Don't Know Why Jesus Loved Me - Twila Paris
The Coloring Song (2000) - Petra

DISC 4 - FOR EASTER MORNING
Easter Song - 2nd Chapter of Acts
Hosanna - Michael W. Smith
I Now Live - Crystal Lewis
The Coloring Song (1981) - Petra
Secret Ambition - Michael W. Smith
He Came, He Saw, He Conquered - Petra
Crown Him With Many Crowns - Michael W. Smith
Lord, I Lift Your Name On High - Petra
The Victor - Keith Green
Crucified - Christafari
Enter In - Petra
Nothin' But The Blood - Michael W. Smith
It Is Finished - Petra

I'll tell ya... that line from "Asleep in the Light" that goes "Jesus rose from the dead, but YOU... you can't even get out of bed!" always gets me. And then to follow it up with the Randy Stonehill song, which goes "Oh how much more could any man desire than to know why he draws his every breath? Oh how much more could any soul require than that the Lord is near him at his death? Do not forget Love's greatest story; God knows the tears that you have cried. Just set your sights upon the hope of Glory: it was for this that Jesus died." I'm like almost crying, and Cat's like, "What???" hehe Different songs affect different people different ways!

Notice how Petra bookends the original 3, with the "once upon a time" version of Coloring Song and the "rubber meets the road" verison of Coloring Song. :) I sure wish I had burned a copy of disc 4 for yesterday... the other ones are great for Good Friday and before (Cat and I actually listened to an earlier version of them straight through on Good Friday) but for Easter morning you want something a little more peppy and triumphant.

I don't think you celebrate Easter Day, you must celebrate Easter week to get a chance to listen to all those songs...

Easter Week

Post by Michael » Mon Apr 12, 2004 12:37 pm

Hehe! Actually, like I said, we actually sat down on Good Friday... not actually intentionally but it turned out that way... and played the three CDs. About three hours' worth of music... not too bad! :) I actually put them together so I could listen to them at work too, though, and each of the three CDs can kind of stand on its own.

You should probably add "Once and for All" by White Heart.

And many of your Easter Morning songs are probably meant more for Good Friday.

Other than that, looks good.
