Here's an interesting exercise for ya... try to find Jekyll & Hyde in the copyright database at the Library of Congress. You'll find all of Petra's old stuff... even stuff from Revival... but I couldn't find a thing from JAH. Hints: Bob Hartman was born in 1949, but it won't help ya much.
I was trying to find some of the JAH stuff to verify songwriting credits... no luck! I did notice some interesting stuff about songwriting credits on God Fixation, though (Pete & Lonnie credited with writing music on some of the tracks, etc.)
If you can find JAH in there, post the links!

I guess because
I guess because you forgot to read everything.
Search copyright information by selecting one of the three databases below, which contain records of registrations and ownership documents since 1978. Please note it takes several months for recent registrations to appear in the databases.

several months
I see... you think I'm stupid. It has been two months since the JAH CD has been released, and the first single was released to the public at the beginning of JUNE! I'd say four could be considered "several", wouldn't you?
Besides that, Bob said in his interview with Josh, "One thing I want to mention that people might not know is that four of these songs were written about three years ago."
Just wanted to let you know that I'm not as dumb as you implied I am.

a couple of reasons
1. you realize we are dealing with the Federal Government here.
2. Bob did say he wrote those songs a few years ago, but did he legally copyright them at that time? Also it could have to do when he had them published. There is a song off of Bon Jovi's latest called "Misunderstood" that he wrote in the early 80's but never had it copyrighted or published.
I had heard from someone here on the zone that Bob doesn't have any b-sides or leftover songs from years back. I'm not calling anyone a lair but that sounds kinda different from most songwriters. Most songwriters go in to the recording process having 12-20 songs available to them for their current project.

Hey, I never said I wasn't dumb at all... just that I wasn't as dumb as advertised!!Pethead1 wrote:Are you sure about that?
To split hairs... as soon as a work is put down in tangible form... written down, recorded on tape, etc... it is "legally copyrighted." Copyright registration is basically for proof that the work existed at a certain time and was yours. Technically, registering with the copyright office is OPTIONAL! Once you have publicly released something and you feel comfortable that you can prove in court that you created it, you are all set. In the real world, I feel pretty certain that either Bob himself or Inpop Records has submitted the paperwork to copyright the work either as individual songs (they did do it for Revival, after all) or as one single long work. I do realize this is the government we're talking about, but I also do find it surprising that they are quite THAT slow!executioner wrote:Bob did say he wrote those songs a few years ago, but did he legally copyright them at that time? ...
