Which is better? The old Stryper (1979-1991) or the new Stryper (2003-present)?

1982 - Robert Sweet & Michael Sweet formed Roxx Regieme

1983 - Oz Fox joined Roxx Regieme

1983 - Kenny Metcalf witnessed to Roxx Regieme. Roxx Regieme becomes Stryper.

1983 - Timothy Gaines joins the band.

1983 - Stryper signs with Enigma

July 1984 - Yellow and Black Attack released

Maybe Michael, Robert or Oz play music in 1979, but I don't think Stryper was around then.

While I really like the new Stryper sound from the last album (2005), the yellow and black spandex garb of the eighties was pretty cool at the time! I think the new album does a good job of updating the hairband rock sound while still being "Stryper."

The Sweet brothers were in a band in 1979(don't remember name) and then in 1980 or 1981 Oz Fox come on board and they change the name to Roxx Regime. Most of the music for YaBA was written by Mike before Oz came aboard. YaBA was first released under the Roxx Regime name, but then a mere few months later they changed their name to Stryper. I know there was some LP/cassettes out there of YaBA under the Roxx Regime name but I don't know how many. This album has been released in three different forms over a two year period.
I'm always interested in how bands were formed and also when and how songs are written and why they were put on certain albums. Alot of the time songs are written years before they are actually recorded and release. Petra was playing Judas' Kiss in concert on their Never Say Die tour in 1981; I went to see them in Orange, Tx and they opened up with Judas' Kiss. First Petra song I ever heard. Also alot of the songs who hear on PP1 Petra had been doing them for years in concert even with Greg at the helm. I know on the secular side Bon Jovi will do this alot and alot of the music that they have recently released had been written in the mid-late 80's.

I feel that the their web site is wrong like all band sites(including official sites) Around here we all know too well how a band's official web site can be wrong or not updated. I'm getting info from their book and also Michael Sweet personal site.

To Me or Not To Me, That is the REAL question

Anyhow, I can not, NOT pic between the two for I have felt myself.....wait no that's wrong, I have felt that they are the same group, just a different bass player. Anywow, I think that the both are the best!

Reborn is an awesome album, but I do hope there's more to come.

I myself am partial to the old Stryper.

My favorite Stuff was Yellow & Black Attack and Soldiers Under Command,
but I also liked "To Hell With The Devil" and "In God We Trust",
but the first 2 albums and those tours really rocked for me personally ;)

My rig then...

"
Actually in 1978 My band played the La Mirada Civic Auditorium with the Sweet Brothers.
They had a band then called the "FireStorm Band".
That was the first time/band Michael had sang with Robert.

I met the original bass player last weekend and we had great memories to talk about. He remembers and has the tapes of Michael auditioning for the Firestorm band.

I have a rare recording of them singing "Johnny B Goode" "LIVE" at the LM CIVIC 1978.

After Firestorm was Roxx, Then Roxx Regime.
Stryper happened after they accepted Christ.

Just thought id say hey. See ya over at CSN. God Bless brother!!

Wasn't C.C. Deville (of Poison) the original guitarist for Roxx Regime?
