Onkyo is a good bang for the buck company. They were recently purchased by Gibson (yes, the guitar company, which is retarded) and we do not know what they will mean for supply, support, etc. Integra is Onkyo's higher end line and would be a good choice. Typically, Onkyo has handled HDMI well. Some manufacturers do not pass audio through HDMI. AFAIK, all of Onkyos receivers do. They have the upscaling features down too.
The only weak link might be the speakers. I guess it all depends on the square footage and your expectations. You could always upgrade those later.
