Music from 2012

Post by Carolina Petra Fan » Tue Jan 22, 2013 11:44 am

I'm curious as to what music petra fans bought last year; and how they would rank it. Please respond with a list of artists/albums/songs (christian or secular) that you bought (cd's and/or downloaded) last year and rank them. If you have too much to list, just do a top 10.

This is based on all the albums that I bought from 2012:

9) MxPx- Plans Within Plans [MRI/Rock City]

8) Third Day- Miracle (CD, Vinyl) [Essential]

7)David Crowder*Band- Give Us Rest (A Requiem Mass in C [The Happiest of All Keys]) [SixSteps]

6)The O.C. Supertones- For The Glory (CD, Vinyl) [BEC]

5) MercyMe- The Hurt and The Healer [Fair Trade]

4) Remedy Drive- Resuscitate [Centricity]

3)Rhett Walker Band- Come To The River [Essential]

2)Disciple- O God Save Us All [Fair Trade Services]

1)John Schlitt- The Greater Cause [4K]

I think the only album I bought was John Schlitt- The Greater Cause, as a download.

And I didn't sell much either, just these two albums:

Here is what I can remember or look up online. I separated the physical CDs from downloads but kept my "favorite" status in front of each title.

CDs:

1) Marillion - Sounds that Can't be Made
3) John Schlitt - The Greater Cause

Mumford & Sons - Babel (for my kids - not listened to it yet)

This was an interesting excercise for me. It is amazing what Amazon.com got me to buy by giving me $1, $2, or $3 credits to spend on MP3s here and there, all year long - coupled with their $5.00 album deals. I bought more than I thought, but for SO MUCH LESS than the CDs would have cost. I did not spend anywhere near as much as this list make it look like I did...

MP3s:

2) Classic Petra - Classic Petra Live (Expanded)
4) Daft Punk - Tron: Legacy
5) Ray Lynch - Deep Breakfast
6) Joe Jackson Trio - Live Music
7) Little River Band - The Definitive Collection
8 ) Michael W. Smith - Glory
9) Chicago - The Best Of Chicago, 40th Anniversary Edition
10) Genesis - Platinum Collection
11) Foreigner - No End In Sight: The Very Best Of Foreigner
12) Michael Jackson - Immortal
13) Duran Duran - Greatest
14) Kenny Loggins - Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow - The Greatest Hits Of Kenny Loggins
15) Soundtrack - Fiddler on The Roof

Soundtrack - Downton Abbey (for my wife - but I have come to like a lot of it...)
Various Artists - 100 Classic Christmas Songs (for my wife)
Soundtrack - The Sound Of Music - 45th Anniversary Edition (for my wife...)

Ditto the foreigner and genesis albums.

We bought lots of classic stuff we had but loaned or lost. I streamed tons of stuff, mostly progressive rock and modern rock from my legit music listening services. I listen to everything (instrumental rock, prog rock, jazz, big band, vocal, etc). NO COUNTRY. There isn't much Christian music I can stand, honestly. The only reason I listen to Petra and some of the other classic bands is because of my youth. I do listen to Christian artists making mainstream rock and prog rock music.

Goodwill is my CD source these days.
Giant - Time to Burn
Smalltown Poets - Third Verse

MP3 albums purchased
Randy Stonehill - Spirit Walk (best musical decision of 2012, I think)
Heath McNease - The Weight of Glory
Andy Hunter - Glow

That's about it. I stream about 95% of the music I listen to these days.

The only item on the list I got in Digital format was The Greater Cause(John Schlitt) and that was becauseit was part of the package; everything else I bought in CD format. Only one or two artists on the list I bought brand new; most of my stuff I get at Half Price Books or used through Amazon.com and only two CD's I spent $10 or more, everything else was under $6.

1. The Greater Cause(2 CD copies)
2. Fireflight-Now
3. AC/DC-Black Ice & Live
4. Aerosmith-Music From Another Dim
5. U2-No Line On The Horizon
6. Motley Crue-Greatest Hits
7. Def Leppard-Mirror Ball
8. Journey- Eclipse(I owned one copy already but found this one for $1 at HPB)
9. Glen Kaiser Band- Octane & Blacktop
10. The Who-Greatest Hits
11. Jonah33- The Heart of War

I believe this to be all, but it was a slow year for me; I usually get anywhere from 25-30 CDs per year. If I don't find them cheap or used I usually don't buy. My favorite of the year is clearly The Greater Cause; I know its not Petra but this CD is the best item of music (Petra related) that has come out since Wake Up Call. This includes anything Petra has done in that 20 year time frame.

I forgot about the latest Van Halen that I bought; its a good album for what it is, songs that are 30 years old with a idiot of a lead singer.

Okay, I think I got these two for Christmas 2011,

Third Day - Revelation
Newsboys - Born Again: Miracles Edition

The rest I got in 2012:

Petra - Back to the Rock
Paul Rowlen Project - Galleon
Third Day - Move
Skillet - Awake

Then I got tobyMac's first four albums in either 2011 or 2012.

Momentum
Welcome to Diverse City
Portable Sounds
Tonight

So, in a list they would be:
01) Back to the Rock
02) Move
03) Tonight
04) Born Again
05) Revelation
06) Portable Sounds
07) Awake
08) Galleon
09) Welcome to Diverse City
10) Momentum

I ALWAYS buy CDs!!! This allows me to have the real disc in my car. I am 18 and most of my friends consider me a rebel for still buying CDs!!! 8)

I have mainly bought currently released christian albums.

The Greater Cause (CD and Download)
Crave- For King and Country
Manifesto- The City Harmonic (Older I Know, 2010)
The Hurt and the Healer- Mercyme
Miracle- Third Day (Really Good Album, the lead single is not my cup of tea though)
Give us Rest- David Crowder (selected songs, yes I broke my rule about CDs, but the album is so extensive and expensive!)
God Fixation- Petra (Yes, I had waited to buy this album, I am now 2 albums from a complete set, Double Take and Revival are still left.)

I am planning on purchasing these newly anticipated releases from:

The Afters - Every Good Thing (Really good single)
Citizen Way- Should've been me (Also a really good single)
Audio Adrenaline- Kings and Queens (It came out today!!! I'm ready to go pick it up! KLOVE has a free song from the album, I think it is one of the best of the album.)
Switchfoot- I dont know the name of the new album, but its coming soon.
Petra- Their new studio album!!!!! (Fingers Crossed)

I did buy some secular:
Eclipse- Journey
Astro Lounge-Smash Mouth (Just Epic, I Don't Know Why!!)
