As a long time fan of DT, I agree about the lyrics. But like Rush, you have to see them live to "get" what they are all about. They don't just write "songs." They write compositions. But at the same time, they are not for everyone.

I agree. I love Dream Theater. Been listening to them for about 12 years. I probably couldn't tell you 80% of their lyrics. Like Rush, they write in sort of an abstract style that doesn't appeal to the senses as most of the top 40 stuff does. I have to be in the mood to listen to Dream Theater because of the way I listen to music. Sometimes listening to them can be mentally exhausting because the level that they play at is beyond just mere entertainment. There is alot of math involved in their music. Time signature wise.
