They sang an Augeri ballad in KC. All the originals with Arnel, the majority of the people sat down. But, this was also a crowd that was mostly older and KC has two formats of rock radio. There is classic, which is limited to some of the classics, not all and then modern rock, that is limited to playing new hits, but only the first hit that modern bands make. It is really frustrating.

That is a good point Brent. Location does certainly matter when gauging fan response. Houston is a town that really likes Journey and the out of the large population one must figure a lot of people have access to the new music and listen to it. KC, well I have to take your word on the demographics but it sounds about how I would imagine. What Augeri ballad was sung at your show?

I remember four new songs that show, not bad for a band with so many hits they can't play them all. Crowd was into 3 of the 4 new songs. Eclipse was not as well recieved, but hey, it's 2015 and Journey has a lot of songs... the Steve Augeri songs are never played, which is a shame because Higher Place is a kicking song!

The attorney for Dean claims he was on meth during the alleged rape. He is never going to play for Journey again.

I saw some current video of Steve Augeri doing Journey songs live with his band, I wonder how the band feels about that because they had a cease court order at one time on Steve Perry for doing certain Journey material live. Arrival was and is a very good album.

I'm not sure how Journey could get a cease and desist on Steve Perry unless he was marketing himself as Journey. The songs have copyrights and there are fees paid out. As long as folks are playing by the rules you can sing whatever you want a show.

I guess Neal, Ross, & Jonathan felt like Steve wasn't playing by the rules because they did file it in court, but I'm not sure what ever came of it; this was sometime during the Arrival release and tour in 2001 and the band felt like Steve was trying to take advantage of that release and tour by releasing an EP on the same date as Arrival and doing some shows, you know sort of like how Star Song always releases a Petra compilation around the same time Petra would release a new album. BTW the Journey catalog is no longer owned by the individuals like it was in the 70's-80's it is owned now by JourneyGroup which Steve has no part in.

Steve was getting paid for whatever Journey did until a couple of years ago. Anyone can sing whatever they want live. The only thing people can't do is sell recordings of songs without paying royalties. You don't have to pay to sing covers as an artist. If royalties are paid for recordings, or to rerelease albums, they are paid to the owner. Depending upon the songs, Steve would be paying royalties to himself. My money is on Steve not selling his percentage to Cain and Schon. As far as Perry piggy backing off of Journey....that is laughable IMO. Perry IS Journey. Perry put them on the map. Classic Journey has sold exponentially more albums and singles than the existing band could hope to sell. Perry needs nothing, other than a record. He has an open door to the record label. Unfortunately, I don't think one will ever come.

Perry did bring Journey up to another level and yes those albums sold many millions, but Perry is not Journey; Journey in 2014 completed their most successful tour in history and right now are touring Canada to sold out shows. More people have seen Journey live in the last 10 years then any of the previous years put together. The reason why I debate you about this is because your reasoning is in the past with thinking radio charts & album sales are what makes a successful artist and yes 20-30 years ago that was the case, but musical radio is completely dead except for Spanish and a few country stations blended in and no artist except for a few sell any albums anymore that are note worthy and those are the two things you bring to the table for your side of the discussion.
I do not know one person family, friends, or coworkers that listen to any radio unless it is sports talk or other talk type radio. DFW(4th largest media market) has more talk radio stations now than music stations and the music stations are falling by the waste side almost daily, we just had within the last 2 months 2 country stations merge with a third country station because it is no longer viable for them to operate.
I loved Journey when Perry was in it, but I understand that is no longer an option and actually have grown to love the current band about as much as the classic Journey due to their top on the line live shows and also I still think they really make great music, I just dislike it when I see so called fans blackball them just because Perry is no longer with them.

And they are singing mostly Perry songs. If the band was not called Journey, and only performed the new material, they would not be selling shows of any kind. They are a parody of themselves.

Journey plays their hits? well no duh. They have so many hits that they can't even play them all in a show. As mentioned before they DO mix up the set list every tour to bring back some of the older fan favorites and a new song or two. That doesn't make them a parody. It makes them normal. And Perry probably gets paid for the songs Perry wrote, not that any of them need the money at this point.

What makes them a parody is their lead singer changes. They have had three since Perry. Two of them were chosen because they sound like Perry. Jeff Scott Soto was just wrong and wasn't a good choice. He should have stayed in Neal's sire project.

Yeah they did go through a couple, but they got it right with Arniel and it is showing sale & concert wise. On another note what long time artist can go through a couple lead singers and still sell out shows(had their biggest and most successful tour ever last year) and their last 2 albums reach Billboard top 15? Where would Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Rolling Stones, & Def Leppard be without their lead singers and funniest thing is Journey new material has out sold all these artists new material that they all have put out during this same time frame.
BTW all of Journey's hits(except for 3, which came before he was in the band) have come from the pen of Cain; and someone can argue Cain has had more influence then anyone with Journey's success. Neal Schon has said in an interview if Jonathan's name is credited on the song its 90% his song, the other members including himself & Perry just added bits & pieces and the final touches to complete the project. Jonathan is the only member that is equal with his words & music capability.
