Why should anyone record anything now? You have to pay for it yourself, then take it to a label for a 360 deal, where they will put it out and then take all of the money, AND the money you make from touring, AND the money from your merch table. Oh, and then it goes on iTunes where you have a few cents per play. Then it winds up on someone's imported playlist on Spotify, where you can make an awesome .004 cents per play, or whatever it is. My checks come so infrequently. We get thousands of plays and a few bucks. Sorry. There is just no monetary incentive to do it. The only people making money with longevity are the ones who started with the help of the recording industry loan shark business. There will never be another Def Leppard, Rush, Guns n' Roses, Van Halen, etc, etc. Pick your fav. Artists will never begin from a bedroom on a laptop and and create a multi-generational audience and career that spans decades. Without those types of artists and the economy of scale, there is no money to develop and propel the next generation and the next.

It is not just music. It is everything.
