Say WHAT?!? Who are the other "friends"? Anyone we'd recognize? Does John sing on many songs?

Out of curiosity how are Bob's lyrics anointed? Do you mean scripture referenced?

Re: John DeGroff feat John Schlitt
More than just referencing scripture, Bob's anointed lyrics were dedicated to the service of God.

So I looked up the definition of anoint...
anoint
uh-noint
verb (used with object)
1. to rub or sprinkle on; apply an unguent, ointment, or oily liquid to.
2. to smear with any liquid.
3. to consecrate or make sacred in a ceremony that includes the token applying of oil: He anointed the new high priest.
4. to dedicate to the service of God.

Re: John DeGroff feat John Schlitt
The earliest biblical use for "anointed" references people chosen and/or sent by a group to perform a function on their behalf. So, a politician would be anointed. This is not a tangible or dispensable power. This is a position or application of a person. I have a hard time with the TBN types talking about having THE anointing on them, praying, claiming or prepaying for THE anointing. This lingo makes me cringe. We are all called according to His purpose. All believers are in a position to do the Work of the Lord on his behalf.

Yeah, don't go assigning any sort of undue spiritual significance to Bob Hartman's songwriting. He's talented, but his lyrics are not God-breathed.

Re: John DeGroff feat John Schlitt
Interesting comments. I was trying to think if Bob would have describe his song writing as anointed, led by the spirit seems more fitting.

Re: John DeGroff feat John Schlitt
One could easily argue that because Bob's lyrics reference so much scripture (which is God breathed) that his songs are spiritually significant. I've read many accounts on here where people have stated that Petra's lyrics helped them understand the Bible. Do they trump scripture? Absolutely not! Does Bob have a gift? Absolutely!Mountain Man wrote: ↑Sat May 12, 2018 8:18 pmYeah, don't go assigning any sort of undue spiritual significance to Bob Hartman's songwriting. Perhaps my point was missed, so I'll state it more directly. I'm not impressed with the lyrical content on the 45 second sample of "Runnin'." Perhaps my opinion will change as I hear more of the project.

I said not to assign undue spiritual significance to his talents. I never said they were devoid of spiritual significance.dihigo wrote: ↑Sun May 13, 2018 10:10 amOne could easily argue that because Bob's lyrics reference so much scripture (which is God breathed) that his songs are spiritually significant. Re: John DeGroff feat John Schlitt
Why does there have to be any impressive lyrical content? Some of the most famous/best songs in recorded history don't mean anything or have stupid lyrics. Does everything have to preach? Music is art. In some situations, the lyrics and singing are placeholders for the music. I also think this song is very 70s, and 70s CCM was music was pretty lame lyrically. So, take people from the 70s, let them write and play the music they like, you kind of get what you hear.dihigo wrote: ↑Sun May 13, 2018 10:10 amOne could easily argue that because Bob's lyrics reference so much scripture (which is God breathed) that his songs are spiritually significant. I am in a hotel lobby in Houston, and American Idol is playing in the background... Katy Perry proceeds to say the singer who just finished their song is anointed.
