Re: New Petra Project
What about layered rhythm guitar and solos coming from one pair of hands and one guitar or stacks of GVX only backing vocals? The sad thing is, there is a generation of kids accepting fakery as the norm. They wouldn't know a real live show if it bit them. For real. It's shocking what people will be...

Re: New Petra Project
Yes, I should have more specifically said "played over" rather than mimed when describing the TBN taping. My point was that it wasn't a typical "live" Petra concert like they played during the rest of their shows. It definitely felt weird when they started More Power to Ya and you hear acoustic guit...

Re: New Petra Project
I spoke with Mark for a while after the TBN taping and asked him how it felt to be back in the band. He said that ever since he left Petra, he always felt like he had sold his birthright. He was thrilled to be playing Petra songs again, and he seemed genuinely happy miming his way through the songs ...

Re: John's Christmas album
Sue, just curious. Why would John have no interest in some day putting out the ca. 2001 material? Even if it sounds dated, there are many who would buy it just because they never got to hear it. Does it have something to do with who owns the rights to the music? Even if it was available for only a d...

"I just wish they would put out better quality music than what they are now."
Have you heard Murder By Pride perchance? Pretty sweet record in my opinion.

Re: Memphis Hard Rock Show
Awesome! I only had a few crappy clips on my camera phone, so this is great. Incidentally, when Mark Kelly says "that table is getting anxious" the first time, he was talking about mine

Memphis Hard Rock Show
Last night was one of those surreal experiences. I only found out about two weeks ago that Classic Petra would be playing our tiny little Hard Rock Cafe here in Memphis. For $15, of course I couldn't turn this down! The show was slated to start at 9pm, though the guys came out about ten minutes late...

Greg almost certainly plays the cello better than Mark or Ronnie

Re: Mark vs. Ronnie
I'd definitely go with Mark over Ronnie. Ronnie was more spastic on stage, but that's not always a plus, as some others have noted. Some of his dance moves make me cringe. As for better vocals, this one isn't even close. Ronnie was okay doing some back-up vocals live, but Mark is actually a vocalist...

Re: Petra: A Call To Unity
I talked to Mark Kelly after the show and he said the plan was to do another album of "old" songs with a couple of new ones in the same vein as "Back to the Rock." I suggested they call it "Back to the Rock...Again!," though he only half-laughed

Re: Rehersal Photos
Bob told the story of how they got the stage back at the concert. He said Greg took it with him when he left Petra and then donated it to a church in Texas. They told him he could have it back whenever he wanted it, and over 20 years later he called the church and they gave it back to him!

Re: More TBN Pics!
Yeah, Mark was BY FAR the most modern looking of the bunch. John would be a distant second, and the other guys...well, they are all over 50

Re: You have questions? I have answers.
I talked to Mark after the show, and he said (depending on the success of Back to the Rock) that they are planning on releasing a second album with about the same format, i.e. 10 classic songs and two new ones. I only hope they don't recycle any more of Greg's solo stuff for the "new" songs 8) I sug...

Re: Digital Downloads or The CD
In answer to CatNamedManny, I contacted Michael Nachtigal at classicpetra.com, and he said the following: "We are planning to have the new CD’s also available at TBN. The band will do autographs after the show." So there ya go.
