Re: Petra: A Call To Unity
I can get on board with this. Doesn't matter who's doing what... just enjoy the fact that there is a band to talk about again in whatever incarnation it's in.

Re: CDs are different to the Downloads
Somebody needs to teach these artists how to rip a proper MP3 when they offer them for download. For the average listener*, a .wav compressed with " lame --preset standard " will be indistinguishable from the source file, but most downloads are encoded at an ear-abusing 192k * I said average listen...

It's nice , the synth is a little overpowering though IMO. Perhaps dial it back a little, other then that I like it.

Re: Studio Talk
Multiple tracks for background vocals with differing harmonies is one of my favorite things. On my drum tracks, I'm a big fan of a bass drum mic, micing the snare/hi-hat, and then some condensers to pick up everything else drum wise. Similar to the approach that Zeppelin used in the old days, or som...

Re: Petra video shoot and TV show practices
Didn't Tom Scholz achieve that fat Boston guitar sound by playing the same part over and over close to exactly the same? Brian May did/does as well for the infamous "wire choir" sound he has on their older recordings. Brent, you are a wise man sir and I love reading your posts. I'm glad to know I'm...

Re: Petra video shoot and TV show practices
There have been effects used for several years to hide flaws in vocals for live shows. Mostly just in case someone has a cold or whatever. If you make your living with your voice, you have to do whatever it takes to make sure you sound good at least 98% of the time. "What ever it takes to get the j...

Re: Petra video shoot and TV show practices
And I'm NOT talking about the occasional use of it or about Greg... I'm talking in general. If you need a machine to correct your vocals constantly - then why are you singing and selling a product? If you’re Britney Spears, you shouldn’t sing  Sadly some artists use it "live" to correct pitc...

Re: Petra video shoot and TV show practices
Interesting explanation... but here's my take on it: if you can't sing properly and hit the correct notes on a song - should you really be recording? And I'm NOT talking about the occasional use of it or about Greg... I'm talking in general. If you need a machine to correct your vocals constantly -...

Re: Petra video shoot and TV show practices
How does auto tune work? I can hear that they did something, but since I'm not into technical studio stuff, I don't really know what I'm hearing. Is it something like digital manipulation? Once you hear it, you'll know it. Auto-Tune is a downloadable studio trick that can take a vocal and instantly...

Re: Petra video shoot and TV show practices
As for the lipsyncing.... I can hear a lot of vocal pitch correction, aka Auto tune, in use on the cd. On Second Wind it's very obvious. I'm guessing the reason for using the vocal track at the show was because you can't correct pitch live. Finally independent confirmation, I'm glad someone else he...

I don't doubt for a second dude has the chops, if I could pick any singing voice to have, I'd take his any day.rexreed wrote:I thought the same thing. I think Greg still has the chops, they were just playing around with the new toy.

So, I'm a "new" guy
Not sure if this is the right place to make a introduction thread but here goes. About me: I'm 35 years old, married for almost 15 years, with a 13 year old daughter and as of today a 1 week old baby girl. I play in a total of three bands: Anduril : Drums and Lead Vocals (mix of rock and metal orign...

Re: Hello Petheads... BTTR review and Hello
I think they used Auto Tune on one track, just for effect. A lot of people are doing that now. However they use it sometimes on even the best vocals on earth, just to make things a little more tight; it has nothing to do with someones ability to sing. No where did I say it had anything to do with h...
