PETRA - DENVER 1982

I was astonished to hear Chameleon as the first song, it being one of the more complex songs. But I guess it got their attention.

Re: 1982 - Petra Live in Atlanta

Hey, Does anyone happen to know the venue for this Atlanta show? Bert I recall that we played at a very large suburban Atlanta church where either Myron LeFevre was involved, or he played the same show. Might have been Mt. Paran Church of God. Wikipedia states that he had been a janitor there, but ...

You know, at first, I used to think it was the guitar, but it sounds like it could be some manipulated organ. I don't know. Do I get a winning lottery ticket for coming up with the right answer?
You're supposed to know these things!

Re: 1979 Petra Live Audio Miscellaneous

I bought it, took it home, put it on and sat with my mouth open, thinking, THIS SUCKS! I felt the same when I bought Donald Fagan's "Kamakiriad" around 1995. I hated it because it was such a sterile departure from the Dan's usual juicy organic stuff. But after a while, I could not stop playing it. ...

Re: New Petra Project

It's good to see John Slick posting again. I enjoyed conversing with him. I would love to have him play on a PDC3. Hey Brent, you're an engineer right? Here's an odd audio thing I'd wondered about but forgotten until recently listening. It's a weird "slide whistle" sound right at 2:29. I suspect it...

Re: 1979 Petra Live Audio Miscellaneous

I wonder what Beat The System would have sounded like if JS would have had a hand or two on it..... I've no idea, particularly since I've never heard the album. But I'm sure it was very well done. I thought that Carl Marsh did the synth programming. I've no idea of who played what on the album. I'm...

Re: Greg on Coloring Song

I really didn't mean to get John Slick all upset, My info comes from people that I trust and have inter knowledge of the band at the time and one of them is a life long friend of Bob's, and I would not put anything on here that I didn't truly believe was 100% correct. No one's "all upset." But, I t...

Re: New Petra Project

I have no idea how close it is, but there was this years ago. Cameron Jones is on a video doing the intro. Ha. $149.00. Things have come a long way. $149.00 back in the Synclavier and Fairlight days would probably have bought a relabled box of ten eight-inch floppy discs to store all those dirty 8-...

Re: Greg on Coloring Song

Bob actually talks about it in the More Power To Ya devotional on how "Killing My Old Man" was originally recorded for Come & Join Us but was dropped because of the label and was rerecorded later for NSD. I know "The Coloring Song" was originally done by the group GXV was in in the 70's. Right. But...

Re: Greg on Coloring Song

Something else that might be a factor is NSD was recorded over a 2 year period, several of the songs were originally meant for Washes Whiter Than but the record label didn't want to go that direction so they were put on the back burner. I remember hearing the The Coloring Song was one of the last s...

Re: 1979 Petra Live Audio Miscellaneous

Agreed. I always thought that without adding John Slick the Petra sound and and image would have never been complete. That wall of sound with synth was his trademark on Petra IMHO, and let's not forget the B3. That frame of work continued through Petras run after that. I also think that Occupy is t...

Re: 1979 Petra Live Audio Miscellaneous

Doxology the tune, aka “Old 100th” was written in 1551. So no, not by John Slick. He would probably be credited for the arrangement as recorded on the album, however. When I watched that video lately, I was surprised when Bob played Doxology. I don't remember him ever playing that other than the cl...

Re: New Petra Project

Hi John Did you ever attend a Petra concert after you left the band and if so what did you think and how did it feel? After I left, other than noticing CP on the TBN sign, I never heard of any Petra concerts. Nor did I ever hear from anyone in the band, but I figured they were quite busy. I concur ...
