Interesting. I wonder if there's anything legally that prevents a songwriter from reusing music from a previously published song and creating a new song with a new name?
Not much. It’s pretty much an artist’s easiest way to use their own material. Re-record it, change it up.

Re: Favorite bands

Manfred Mann’s Earth Band - a great example of a band doing covers better than the original, many times. And...I don’t get the fascination with the Beatles either.

Re: Remastered albums

Well, we were just slightly early with this conversation. It’s happening! Remastered More Power to Ya, Beat the System, and This Means War are all coming in August! Thank you Girder Records!

Re: John Schlitt/Project Damage Control Question?

Since you mentioned it, you could probably get Mike Portnoy on the album pretty easily!

Re: Remastered albums

Wouldn't the multi-track analogue recording have to still exist to remaster? No, multitracks would only be needed if a remix was done. Which would be another, awesome idea. Much less likely to happen than remasters. For a remaster, you really only need the final mixed two track stereo master. Now, ...

Re: Remastered albums

That would be great, but I’ve just about given up on the possibility. Would be great if they could at least get the Girder Records Legends of Rock treatment. The existing CDs really need some help. And you’re probably about to get some comments insisting that they sound just fine. In the meantime, ...

Re: Petra New Project?

I wish they would record and release new material. Get it out there on Bandcamp. Union... is on there. Many artists have been using COVID era to get material recorded. Of course it would also be great if they could make the entire back catalogue available as high quality downloads. Too many rights i...

Re: Yeah so kinda late to the party here

Welcome, Pat. I also joined the site late in the game; not even two years ago yet. It’s great to get on those periodic Petra kicks. I do that with lots of artists!

Re: Favorite bands

I think pop culture kind of pushes people into naming certain musicians as “great” or “genius” simply because it’s the cool thing to do. There are those who will acknowledge Kerry Livgren as an amazing guitarist and composer in private, and because they really like Dust in the Wind or Carry On Waywa...

Re: Favorite songs

Impossible to list my favourites, but here are some of the songs that have stayed with me for a long time. Some are deep, but most are just cool tunes. Makes Me Wanna Sing- Stryper More Than a Man - Stryper Island in the Sun - Harry Belafonte Abraham, Martin and John - Harry Belafonte Broken Promis...
