had never heard Petra use samples in their live shows until I saw them on the Jekyll And Hyde tour in June 2004. The 1985 Beat the System tour used a fair amount of "sampling" and pre-recorded material. About the new album, I was listening to it the other night on a boombox in the kitchen. Dance ca...

Re: Very interesting interview at Christianity Today

Looks like a good interview. This quote by Bob Hartman reminded me of a story: "For the longest time, we felt like outsiders. When we first started going to GMAs, it was really dominated by Southern gospel. Contemporary Christian music was coming in with Sandi Patty, Larnelle Harris and Evie. Our st...

This sounds like my trials and tribulations trying to find Jeckyll & Hyde at local Christian bookstores here in Columbus, OH. Either the store didn't have a clue or they were getting it in way late or they weren't planning on ordering it at all. I ended up purchasing it from Best Buy of all places.

I have noticed that when one of the Cd's is sold, it is re-stocked on the shelf by the next week. Seems like I go in there every week, ... and yes I always look to see how much interest there is with Petra sales .... Shortly after Jeckyll & Hyde was released, I would pop into my local Christian boo...

Mountain Man, I'm just curious - are you an independent videographer or something like that? I would have loved to get in to that type of work. Well, I studied video production in college and was a news photographer/editor for about 5 years before getting into standard production stuff where I work...

Re: i

I'm sorry but that style you are talking about is so out of date and it would look it on the DVD. No offense, but you don't know what you're talking about. That's like saying that a well-balanced audio mix is "out of date". We don't even use that at church when we are filming special pagents and se...

I agree. That was very cool. I absolutely adored how they were willing to give the stage up to each other. If that's not a display of Christ then I don't know what is.

Re: i

I personally love the NYPD BLUE camera style... I happen to think it's just laziness passing itself off as "artistic". It really takes very little talent to shoot and edit in that style. I know because I've done it on occasion when asked to, and it amazes me just how easy this style is to pull off....

That's a relief. Hopefully the DVD editing will be cleaner.

Cool, but I hope that's just a preview cut and is not indicitive of the DVD. I thought the editing was aweful! Whatever happened to simply focusing on the band and enjoying the performance? I honestly can't stand this "change the image every few seconds" MTV nonsense. Of course, the editor may have ...

My copy arrived in the mail today, a day early! First impressions: This album kicks! I'm loving Bob's guitar being up-front in the mix where I can actually hear it. I particularly enjoyed hearing--seemingly for the first time--the solo from Amazing Grace which was buried in the Revival mix. John sou...

I remember someone asking Bob Hartman about this some time ago, and he basically said that everything that Petra cared to release is already available on the various albums. There might be a few extant demos floating around but nothing the band really wants to put out in the public.

Probably because simply calling it Petra can be a little confusing, and "1974" is faster to type than "the first Petra album".

From what I've gathered, he wanted to join the band but didn't want to commit to the rigerous touring schedule. He basically wanted to be a studio-only band member, which really wouldn't have worked.
