Re: Petra vs Stryper

I'm pretty much decided against reading the book personally (I don't think I *want* to know the whole story here... ) but the key factor for me would be whether Michael's perspective is that of a Christian man who has fallen hard, and experienced (and can testify to) God's redeeming mercy, or if it'...

Re: NEW Schlitt Lawry 2014 Version of Prayer!!!!!

That seems to be the way they are taking it. The song is a petra song but the version is a song bu two petra performers. If Bob worked with this version I would call it a petra song. That saying I would love to see John Lowery team up with Petra and do this version live. Also if Petra makes a new c...

Re: Steve Taylor Kickstarter

Could not agree with you more, gman. Outside of the goofiness, there was some gold in the serious stuff that he wrote. I find myself greatly challenged by stuff like I Just Wanna Know, Harder to Believe than Not To, Svengali, To Forgive, and it goes on. Ditto the stuff he did with Guardian. Sometim...

Steve Taylor Kickstarter

Any Steve Taylor fans around here? http://kickstarter.com/projects/2128223578/steve-taylor-and-the-perfect-foil-new-album-really His Kickstarter campaign has already reached the funding goal (and less than 4 days in!) - I was fortunate enough to get in early so at least I feel like I helped. "...

Re: John Schlitt's Christmas album!!!!

Wow.... wow.

I don't think I've heard John hit those notes since Back to The Street.

WOW.

I'll have more thoughts later I'm sure, but at first listen... I'm just blown away. Fantastic work, John and crew.

Re: Stryper samples for "No More Hell To Pay"

Wow... the vocals on "Marching" are really impressive. Michael's voice has definitely matured but man can he scream. I like what I hear of the lyrics so far, too - good stuff.

Re: Bloodgood Kickstarter

They came within a few hundred short of 25k. According the Michael, the additional funding has already secured them mastering job by David Zaffiro (the band's founding guitarist), plus additional studio time. Pretty impressive. Add Sweet Comfort Band to the list of returning CCM stalwarts - they did...

Re: 40th Anniversary CD out now

Hate to hear people not liking the mix and other aspects of the song. But...the current market is not where we are, Bob writes what he likes, and we are all stuck in the past. I heard the live version and did not really like it, as it sounded incomplete without keys or other guitars. Would prefer m...

Re: Bloodgood Kickstarter

To be fair, songwriting has never really been Stryper's strong point (at least IMO). Lyrically their songs tend to be simplistic, especially compared to Bloodgood's writing (or Petra for that matter). Oz is still touring and recording with Stryper. I'm just waiting for the White Heart Kickstarter to...

Re: 40th Anniversary CD out now

Perhaps I'm cynical, but I see this as (another) cash-in compilation where the label maximizes the return by putting as little money as possible into the album itself. The point is not to celebrate the band but to turn a profit. I'm a bit two-minded on this one. On the one hand, it's clear this was...

Re: 40th Anniversary CD out now

The new song is cool - not my dream Petra tune, but a good one. Must say I was a little disappointed that the liner notes "written by Bob Hartman" were basically the details of each album represented (year, producer, author), and not much else. I wasn't expecting a devotional booklet or anything but...

Re: Bloodgood Kickstarter

Yep, he's still with the band. He's already started laying down guitar tracks if I recall correctly.

Hit the goal, and $1000+ so far. Love the theme for the new album as well. "Dangerously Close". 8)

Re: 40th Anniversary CD out now

Just pre-ordered my CD off Amazon (the $1 mp3 credit is pretty sweet), and I'll likely get the Deluxe mp3 version off iTunes tomorrow. No, I don't normally buy both digital and hard copies of the same album (ouch...), but hey, Petra isn't a normal band. 8)

Bloodgood Kickstarter

I hope I don't get kicked off the board as a spammer with all the Kickstarter links I've been posting. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/557497860/bloodgoods-1st-studio-album-in-22-years First new album from these guys in over two decades. Stylistically I was never a huge fan but they had ...
