Re: dah-rummer boi

I guess I'm different because I love the drums on the albums from 1986 to 1991. They have a powerful sound and really pack a punch. But I also love the WUC drums too. They sound different but it's a good change. The 1986-1991 drum sound wouldn't have fit on WUC. That's because what you hear on the ...

The bio on his site barely mentions Petra. This is the only sentence that mentions the group: "He was also a contributing member of the group PETRA for several years appearing on the albums Washes Whiter Than, War and Remembrance' and PETRA - The Early Years." So really, he only worked on one album,...

Yeah, Dance is a good one, especially with John belting out "Does anybody feel like daaannnccciiinnnnggg!" just before the opening guitar riff kicks in. I also really like Beyond Belief and He Came, He Saw, He Conqured.

It's pretty much impossible to get the punch of a carefully produced studio cut in a live recording like this.

Except the introduction could have been made a little clearer. John Lawry is introduced, but the next voice you hear is Greg Volz's. It took me a moment to realize that it wasn't Lawry talking, and that's only because I'm familiar with Volz's speaking voice. I imagine someone not as familiar with Pe...

Greg always sounded way too smooth for me to buy into him singing rock and roll. You have to remember, Volz got his start in an era when rock vocalists prided themselves on good singing technique, and Volz was one of the best. Other's from that era include John Elefante and Kerry Livgren of Kansas ...

Re: Greg X. Voltz voice.

That being said, I was blown away by his performance on Farewell. Several people I know have all said the same thing. They didn't care for his old voice but actually were excited when they heard Greg on these cuts. I just have to ask... WHAT"S WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE????????? To do an "apples to appl...

The music industry has changed. Bands are pretty much disposable these days. Back when Petra got its start, labels were interested in career acts, popular bands that would have a longterm appeal, and they spent the money promoting their popular artists. These days, it's not unusual for a "career" to...

Re: SONG BY SONG REVIEW

1. All About Who You Know: I agree that this is an odd choice for the opening number. Lyrically, the song is excellent, but musically, it just doesn't blast out of the gate like an opening number should. 2. Dance: Great song! I really like the harmonies at end. 3. Amazing Grace: This is a solid live...

I'm not sure about shophar..never heard of them..but I know song wondered if HALO was going to carry Petra's torch in the early 1990's. Thye were founded by Bob and he hooked them up with the Elefantes. They had a great song in "My Buddy". Didn't HALO pretty much disappear after their second album?...

I agree that they're subtle, but to my ears, they make a pretty significant difference in the sound.

I disagree that it lacks anything musically... I didn't really say that it was lacking musically, just that it doesn't have Petra's famed arena rock sound of the 90's, which is what the original poster was referring to. Listen to the difference between Beyond Belief where John Lawry played keys and...

Re: Odd!

As for the CD, I have to say I am not all that excited. I am glad they did it, but there is just something missing. I think its because I have only seen Petra in big arenas and am use to that BIG sound. It's to bad they didn't do a live album in the early 90's. I know what you're saying. It's a ter...

I assume it means he has a rough mix of the album. In other words, InPop sent him an early production copy for review purposes, or something like that.
