This leads me to believe that we could see remasters of "Back to the Street, "On Fire" and "Captured In Time and Space" next year.
Back to the Street and On Fire preorders start October 8th.

Re: Newsboys Covering Petra Songs?

I would put tribute albums in a different category. Also would put material brought over from someone’s previous band in a different category. I think what we’re talking about is a song originally performed or made popular by one artist being done as a one-off by someone else.

Re: Newsboys Covering Petra Songs?

Well, One Bad Pig did a cover of “Judas’ Kiss.” Both Russ Taff and Chris Eaton recorded the song “Vision” by Eaton. Sheila Walsh did “Don’t Turn Your Back on Jesus” which was previously recorded by Lyrix (Eaton). Keith Green, Phil Keaggy, and Randy Stonehill all did “Love Broke Thru.” There are plen...

Re: Remastered albums

The older U2 albums were what I had in mind regarding night and day transformation from remastering. Boy, October, War, Live Under a Blood Red Sky were all much better. Anyway, I’m looking forward to hearing the remaster of Back to the Street. Original CD is quite thin and harsh sounding.

Re: Remastered albums

Yes, all of those U2 remasters were very nice and long overdue. Definitely an example of a job well done.

Re: Remastered albums

If the original tapes are lost, then remasters will have to come from best sources. Nothing anyone can do to change that. The eq on these does not seem “jacked around” however, and they have not been stripped of their dynamic range. Overall gain is increased, which is the usual practice on most rema...

Re: Remastered albums

BTS is also a nice improvement in sound quality. Brought back my appreciation for the album after it had faded a little over the years. I will definitely be listening to this version much more now. TMW is a good improvement in sound quality, a little more low end definition than the previous CD. One...

Re: Remastered albums

I’m working my way through these now. So far just doing a quick listen. Thumbs up to MPTY. It’s a definite improvement. Trying to get to the others tonight, and will follow up with a thorough evaluation after that.

Electric Jesus (Movie)

Keep your eyes open for this movie over the next few months. It’s running in the festival circuit right now, and is due for a wider release in the not too distant future. It’s not exactly a faith-based film, but it is a coming of age story that takes place in the world of a young Christian metal ban...

Interesting. I wonder if there's anything legally that prevents a songwriter from reusing music from a previously published song and creating a new song with a new name?
Not much. It’s pretty much an artist’s easiest way to use their own material. Re-record it, change it up.

Re: Favorite bands

Manfred Mann’s Earth Band - a great example of a band doing covers better than the original, many times. And...I don’t get the fascination with the Beatles either.

Since you mentioned it, you could probably get Mike Portnoy on the album pretty easily!

Re: Remastered albums

Wouldn't the multi-track analogue recording have to still exist to remaster? No, multitracks would only be needed if a remix was done. Which would be another, awesome idea. Much less likely to happen than remasters. For a remaster, you really only need the final mixed two track stereo master. Now, ...
