Dove Awards and Jim Cooper

Post by calicowriter » Thu Feb 17, 2005 10:24 am

I happened upon a list of the nominees for this year's Dove awards and saw several nominations for a song called "Glory Defined" that was written by Jim Cooper, Kenny Lamb, and Jason Roy. Is this the same Jim Cooper that was with Petra? Given what I've read about him on the Petra boards, it seems kind of surprising that he'd still be in Christian music.

I don't know for a fact that it is the same Jim Cooper, but I do know that OUR Jim Cooper is still active in CCM in Nashville, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's him.

I know the song, I can't remember the artist who does it. It's another one of those songs that sort of sounds like a modern worship tune (a la By the Tree or Mercy Me).

His time with Petra was in the 1990s. A lot might have happened since then, you never know. We forget, CCM and bands (that includes Petra folks) are made up of sinful people. Jim's time with Petra may not have been a great time for them, but it's still a part of the band's history, and sometimes it's just better for people not to work together.

I think the Doves are a joke by the way. :P

All I know is that some guy named Jim Cooper did some work for the "CCM Top 100" album. I don't know if it's the same jim Cooper from Petra though.

Who's married to who is probably something that shouldn't be speculated about here; it wouldn't really accomplish anything, and that was a long time ago even if it is true. No sense discussing it now, and the only people who could really know the whole story would be the individuals involved. Better just to think of it as "past and done with."

Well, anyone who listens to Air1 would know immediately that it's Building 429. Great band, great radio station.

Wasn't "When God Ran" originally done by Benny Hester in the early 90's? I've always liked that song. :)

Yeah, that was Benny Hester. I like that song too. And the duet he did with Julie Miller...I can't remember the name of the song. :)
