Profect Damage Control = Petra

Post by Petrapraise » Sat Feb 26, 2005 9:30 pm

What makes this not Petra except by name?

Not as good, but sounds close to it for me.

John singing and Louie drumming, that's the way it was a few years ago.

More then I have time to get into. With the greatest of respect for the people who participated on this project, it *is* a wonderful collection of songs (which I will purchase), but....well, it's *not* Petra. This'll fill my rock craving, for sure. But there's no rock like the rock, to be candid.

It's not the same musically or lyrically.

One key ingredient is missing: the guitars/songwriting/production of Bob Hartman.

I agree. The songwriting isn't as good. Same story with Liberty 'N Justice's "Welcome to the Revolution." Still, I'm glad to see the members of Petra being involved in other projects. I've often wondered if Petra would have a better relationship with the industry if the guys did more studio work with other bands. Just a theory.

I find the lyrics are dark.

Of course it's not supposed to be Petra otherwise it would be labelled so. Also, Bob Hartman hasn't played/ written on every Petra album. Although, I will agree the sound is not quite the same.

Project Damge Control

Post by justin » Tue Mar 01, 2005 6:03 pm

I heard the soundclips and I liked them enough to buy the CD.
You have to remember these are indy albums put out by guys not
big music corporate America. I applaud anyone who stands and
reaches for their dreams. Petra is Petra you can't compare
anything to that. There is such a wonderful annoiting on their music.
This just shows another side to John while showcasing Brent and Companies , songwriting and musicianship all the while giving Glory to the One in which we call Lord. If you put him first , he will give you the
desires of your heart. I know as humans/critics we will compare
and say this isn't Petra and you are right it isn't Petra, it is
Project:Damage Control featuring John Schlitt of Petra.
Anyway can't wait to get me my CD.....

No, its definitely not Petra - the lyrics are very hollow compared to Petra and the tunes are too repetative....
But if Petra don't release another CD soon, I might just have to buy anything else with John singing to keep me sane :)

You should just go ahead and buy the Cd just to be safe. That's what I did. It's got 2 of Petra's finest on it as well as several other very capable people rockin' out. I'm anxious to hear it. My sound card is shot , so I can't even listen to the clips.

Nice commentary, Justin.

You're right - it's not Petra and it shouldn't BE COMPARED to Petra.

The project features Petra's lead singer - but it's NOT a Petra project and was never meant to be one.
