The Coloring Song Beat Menace
I was attempting to play a drum kit along to this song (the original version) when I discovered there's some weird beat anomaly going on. Verse 1 and 3 starts on one beat, and 2 and 4 on the offbeat. Or they switched what the offbeat is. Or they put in an extra beat. I'm no musician, I'm just a drummer, so I just ground it 'til I found it. I'd love some light shed on the subject by any actual musicians out there. What's the deal?

I refer to the Never Say Die version. E band never existed as far as I'm concerned. Same with Caprill. Double Take, yes.

I have not heard that song in about 10 years or so, but IIRC, the played 4/4 all the way through but the progression turns turns from 2 and 4 to 1 and 3 because of the chorus vocals leading in on the backbeat. That's what I remember.Jonathan wrote:I was attempting to play a drum kit along to this song (the original version) when I discovered there's some weird beat anomaly going on. Maybe I will listen to it. I try not to. That song was so overplayed on Tulsa radio. There is no doubt that station programmers helped kill Petra with it, making people think that it was their latest offering.
If someone else can listen and help the brotha'......
