I noticed this on Second Wind the very first time I listened to it, so I went back to listen more closely.

It's a little strange in that it's so subtle. You'd think if they were using it as a deliberate effect they'd use it more like Fee does on Promised Land.

On the other hand, however, like most of you I wouldn't think Greg would need it for actual pitch correction.

If it is indeed an effect, it can be used to any degree so chosen by the user, just like reverb, delay and so on...there is no "right" or "wrong" amount of effect level. The listener may or may not like it, but at that point it all becomes subjective.

For me, it doesn't ruin the song or the album, just leaves me scratching my head a little!

It's all about art and interpretation. There is no standard for using Autotune and the others have no presets per se. The result is whatever you want it to be. It is up to the user. the fact it is on the record means that they like it.

Enhance.... well... You could just as well say the "fake drums" on some Petra albums are enhanced drums. It just means it will age in a bad way and sound obsolete in 10 years...

Boray...you are right. It does date the sound, just has excessive compression has. Luckily the loudness wars are about over.

Yes, you guys are right that the use of auto-tune will definitely date records...much like the heavy use of chorus effects did in the 80s, and the compression that's already been mentioned. You could name numerous other effects and equipment as well. History will deterimine in the end whether auto-tune is revered or reviled!
