Petra's Evolving Sound

Post by BriGuyPEI » Sun Apr 24, 2005 2:00 pm

Ok, so there's my poll question. I know that most people will vote for John replaces Greg, but I think that the others have merit as well, if you stop and think about it.

Personally, I think the Elefantes coming in was huge. If you listen to their other projects, Petra is very much in line with them sonically. Also, John Elefante's presence on background vocals is huge. In my opinion, that style of BGVs is one of the defining elements of Petra's sound. I was listening to Underground the other day and it really hit me. You almost hear John Elefante as much as John Schlitt in that song.

By the way, I'm kind of skipping the 70s in my poll options. The sound changes were so radical that it would be another entire discussion. Consider this starting at Never Say Die and moving forward.

Anyhoo, discuss away...
