Having worked for some of the largest TV ministries out there, having done one-offs for them, and having sales information available for all media sales, I think I can safely say that the Christian world is putting money in other places. Ministries everywhere are cutting back. So it is not diminishing John. I am saying that if everyone that reaches millions or even hundreds of thousands is having a tough time making it, and if church tithes are down (and they are) then it is going to be hard to get more money out of that same audience for a CD. That is the point. Some people do not give at all and only give to entertainers. But John needs a good 50k people to belly up. You need to find out who those people are and where they go to ask for their money. That is not happening yet, or John would have his money. Or, you have done that, and people do not want to give John their money because there is so much going on and they have priorities. Judging by Christian broadcast revenues and media sales, I tend to think people are cutting back on discretionary spending.

No doubt that John and his music are worth their time and money. What I am sayin is, times are tough and the strongest of the strong with machine money behind them are making it and the rest are fighting for crumbs.

It took me awhile to figure out what the "Dream Team" lineup was supposed to be. I don't have all my liner sheets available; when did Ronny come in? My first Petra love is _This Means War!_, so my personal favorite lineup is Classic Petra plus John Schlitt. (OK, looked it up. Ronny's first album is _On Fire!_, which I love almost as much as TMW.)

+1 to comments about non-Bob-era Petra seeming like karaoke. The first time I saw Petra was around 1996. KXOJ did one of their "Concertwear" events, where your ticket was a T-shirt. I remember them doing some stuff from _No Doubt_ and _Petra Praise 2_, but _PP2_ might not have been out yet. I said it then...Petra without Bob (and Louie) doesn't seem like Petra to me. I enjoyed the show for what it was, but it didn't feel like Petra.

We made the road trip to Enid to see Farewell Petra (and one of the two "Reunion" Petra shows on that tour)...that show rocked. It's a shame to me, though, that in South America, Petra (or a Petra-like band) can fill huge arenas, and in America, during the Farewell tour, with the addition of the Reunion set, AND a GHF set, and a couple other bands on the bill, there was still room in a large high school/small college-sized sports arena.

Would LOVE to see a "Dream Team" reunion. I'd settle for John Schlitt showing up at a Classic Petra show (just like John Lawry and Greg X. did on the _Farewell_ live album.)

Petra just aint Petra without Bob... If you watch the alive 2000 video on youtube, they still had a great way of rocking up the older songs, even if Pete Orta looks like he is not sound minded.

It would be nice to see at least one concert with John S.,Louie W,Ronnie C.,John L. and Bob H but I would like to see a tour in US with Classic Petra if possible. A 40th anniversary kind of thing here in US. If I had BIG bucks I would do it!!!!It take BIG dollars to make this happen. There is the power of the praying man!
We will see!
Brent could tell us if this could happen!!!

Hey guys I just wanted to add a couple of things here.
My band played a new festival this last Friday here in California, one of the board members of Spirit West Coast happen to be there, we talked a little about Petra......

Number 1: They are looking at Classic Petra as an option for a future Spirit West Coast event.

Number 2: We started talking about the schlitt era, and the one thing He seem to express is that the revolving door of members is one of the biggest things that was souring the industry with Petra.

Number 3: He said that, someone He is good friends with books for Aerosmith and others and will be taking on the US tour for Classic Petra.

so hold on folks, that was just one guy, but the industry has been talking about this. Also some of the videos that have been posted on YouTube of Classic Petra shows Greg saying something to the fact that they are going to be doing this until the Lord comes or until He says it's done, something like that, that's not word for word, but it's on YouTube.

Wasn't there a revolving door during the ClassicPetra years?
These five band members were only together for one album, and only two of them actually played on the album, and then one of the members never made it to the studio.

You know about them not playing on the album now but most people wouldn't. Basically the same lineup existed sans the Lawry/Slick interchange for six years.

I agree, Exe.

Mmmmm.... check out the timeline on Petra's wiki page - scroll down a ways: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petra_band

Six years is 1979-1985. A little more than Slick/Lawry exchanges there, according to the wiki page.

All I'm trying to say is except for the dream lineup Petra's history is a complete revolving door. I would have to say the thing that hurt Petra the most was the style change with No Doubt; that definitely was a shock to all our systems.

The classic line up, with the exception of keyboards, was the same from 81 through 85 or early 86 whenever they ended the BTS tour. Not six years, but a good chunk of time and certainly this was the group who initiated Petra's first big wave of success. It's not known for being a revolving door. Personally, I don't see how having the exact set of members makes all that big of difference anyway. If Bob and Greg are there, you will basically have the Classic Petra sound. If Bob and John are there, you will basically have later Petra sound. The only other person who might make any big difference is John Lawry because his sound is and was different than John Slick, although he does cover the John Slick parts very well, but John Schlitt never played with John Slick, so there is no issue there. I understand the desire for fans of the later line up to want to see them play together again, but I think you have to be patient. That's just not what's going on right now. Petra as led by John Schlitt kind of ran out of gas and interest greatly waned. It's kind of like the Star Trek movies that eventually just kind of wore out their welcome, but when they rebooted the movie series and went back to the original characters after staying off the scene for a few years, great interest was renewed. Well, right now, Petra is having a similar sort of thing going on. Give people enough time to really miss it and then they will welcome a reunion of Petra with John Schlitt again. Meanwhile, we are gonna get a new rocker from John, so we should all be thrilled.
