At the risk of getting myself roasted...

Can anyone be sure the announcement will be up on petraband when it is supposed to be? It's an independent story Josh was working on. This has been kicking around for awhile now; it really shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone.

I've followed Josh's site for a long time. Josh isn't the kind of guy who would post something like this without the highest degree of certainty.

As much as I wish it were a big hoax, I think we can trust Josh's information.

I just find that kind of odd....unless Bob or John said to go with it.
John didn't have anything to do with that announcement... he'll be saying a few words through his own site this week. But why it wasn't put on the official site.... well... let's just say that those who run the official site perhaps weren't quite aware of this retirement decision. If they have any internet saavy - they are aware of it now.
Hopefully this site won't shut down. We are all like family.
Don't worry, this message board will continue as long as Micah is willing to host it, and the domain name owner is willing to continue buying the name (and that owner is me - eh.....I think I'll keep it going).

Petra Zone

Post by Preacherman777 » Tue May 10, 2005 5:00 pm

I'm sure there will still be plenty of news regarding the band throughout the rest of this year anyway. By the sounds of things, there is still some touring to be done and there may be a live album on the way, so I'm sure that will keep us talking for quite a while yet.

After that, well, I guess we can all look back in fond memory of what once was.

Hopefully, before all is said and done we'll get a live DVD out of this deal as well. Now that would make the memory sweeter.

God has used Petra to bless so many people over the years, myself included... It is hard to think that the end of this minstry we are so familiar with is near, but this is all God's doing, and fits His purposes.

I want to say thank you to all the past and present members of Petra. These words just do not do enough to express what this band has meant to me...

Specifically in my life, God has not only used Petra to bring me good music, but to bless me more than once. I finally heard God calling to me at a Petra concert in 1997. Without the words used that night, who knows if or when I ever would have found Christ? Also, thank you Lord for coordinating things to make last year's Petra Reunion a reality, and having me meet the true love of my life there! The Lord has used this band to bring me the 2 biggest blessings a person could ever ask for...

Blessings to each and every one of you who have ever been involved in this ministry!

Jen

PS I also got a good chiropractor thanks to Petra... Thanks Dr. Hough for helping me with my accident recovery! :)

They've had a longer run then anyone could've hoped for. My hat off to them for being such a great band for so long, and for the ministry they've had.

Guess I'll never see them live now, barring a miracle :(

Well, that's what reporters do. Does a White House reporter wait for the official White House spokesman to make an announcement about a big story before he reports on it, if he finds out early and gets confirmation? No. If you are a reporter, as is the case w/ petrarocksmyworld, then you report on the news you can confirm.

Sad to see this news. I figured it was coming sometime or other, but to actually have it happen is, well, still quite shocking and sad. Petra has made an historic impact on so many lives - mine included. Though the band may quit performing they will live on in so many hearts, and their legacy will live on in the lives that they have touched.

Awwww

This is just depressing. Especially since the Stones just announced a new world tour today. Mick and Keef are older than Bob and John, for heaven's sake. They don't give a crap if people say they're too old.
Of course all eras must come to an end, but...
Dang. :( :( :(

I am very sad... But please. do not compare PETRA AND STONES

Here in Brazil..people say the same. STONES play serving another person... and use drugs.

The purpose are different.
It is not the age... I think Bob and John are tired also, but they do not compromise with labels and CCM.

On other hand, it is hard to survive without cds or in a independent way. Above all, we all know that they do everything bellow God's desire.

I am crying today, but be of good cheer.

blessings

Even though this is sad news, I can't help but be encouraged to see what our Heavenly Father will do next with His servants who ministered together as PETRA. I know each member will still be used by the Lord if they make themselves available. I know John's not going to quit.

I am thankful to the Lord for this band and it's music over the years. They have been an inspiration for my songwriting and singing. The Lord used their music to see me through some hard times and bring encouragement my way. I've been able to pray with these songs, minister with these songs, reach people with their music and lyrics. John and Louie both have been nothing but encouraging to me and I'm thankful for their input in my life.

What a blessing that they have been around and have braved some hardships because of their music, which has liberated all of us rockers to be able to praise God with music that we can relate to.
We are blessed beyond measure for having this music on CD's, tapes and even vinyls, and we can continue to be blessed by this music. The impact they have made upon people's lives by being available to the Lord to use them is unforgettable and unmeasurable! May they now even more so stay faithful in their service to the Lord.

I do feel sad......but life is not over, it has just begun........

Are the Rolling Stones annoying yet? I think so.

Additionally, they are media darlings, not so with Petra.

I don't want Petra to be annoying like that.

I really don't care to see Bob and John without their shirts, making stupid kissie faces, etc like the Stones.

My one wish is that before they go home at the end of the year, Petra can make it down to Texas so I can get one oppritunity to see them perform.

Amen to that! --about Texas, that is...

Post by petra4ever » Tue May 10, 2005 10:40 pm

I do hope they come to Texas in the fall. I haven't gotten to see them on the J&H tour. I was going to try to go to Sherman (end of Sept. '04) or Dallas area ShoutFests, but to only see them play for 30 minutes (give or take). Also, my mom went to be with Jesus on Labor Day, and I had to try to deal with that.
