The gang at EMI CMG (StarSong Records) are going to do it again.

They are going to release a "new" compilation called "Petra: Best of the '80s". This CD is scheduled for release on June 5, 2012. (Yawn).

Hmm, the latest compilation to end all Petra compilations?

Careful brent, you're about to lose all your sponsors, and Star Song will get a congratulatory phone call from the Oval Office.
Interesting that three previous compilation albums are among the material sources for this compilation album.

Why put 2 ballads at the end of a rock-n-roll album?

Compilations of compilations of compilations. Why not? Sounds logical to me. Petra has a hard time selling now, so lets confuse all of the world, and try to squeeze every last drop out of the catalog.
Sponsors....we don't need no stinking sponsors.

BUY! HERE'S WHY
- Petra is one of the most recognized names in Christian rock music
- This collection includes all of the biggest hits from the 80’s on one disc
- Increased desire for Petra’s music, as this is their 40th Anniversary of music ministry
- Petra fans continue to purchase their catalog with over 28,000 units sold of Petra’s Ultimate Collection
- Press release will be serviced to all media outlets
So that's why we should buy it. It's not as if 28,000 of us hadn't already been so silly as to buy the Ultimate Collection... And if the 40th anniversary is so import to EMI, why wouldn't they then pick up Petra and give them a place on their label? (I know, they're broke...) The new compilation has only one song (Bema Seat) that's not on the Ultimate Collection. Funny though is that the link they give is to classicpetra.com.
Oh well, thanks for the heads up, pethead97.

EMI is in the toilet. EMI will continue to do this with all of their artists. Sony is doing it, but at least they are working with the artists at times, giving them the chance to be involved with song selections, remixes, providing alternate tracks, mastering, etc. It is sad that in this case, Petra isn't making any real money at this. Bob is probably making a little. 28k in sales....oh boy.

I have to admit, if this was priced at $4.99, I'd probably buy it. I
love the album cover!
5 songs featuring Greg, 5 songs featuring John...a casual buyer can sample both vocalists.
Plus it's got "Mine Field" on it!

The release of this album is as exciting as a tooth extraction...if you know what I mean.

I was thinking more like a three hour phone call with the mother-in-law, but....same thing.

I've never liked Bema Seat much for some reason... And yes, strange to put two calm songs at the end indeed.
I guess old Petra fans has stopped buying these Star Song compilations long ago. But still they make new ones, meaning someone must be buying them. Who? Probably younger newer Petra fans who don't have all of the records. And then... why not. Good for them.

I do not have any of the comps or I guess what you would call greatest hits, never had any interest.

I think the Petra Means Rock LP is pretty interesting because of the high track count (and because it was the first compilation). 17 tracks on one LP! haha! The only time I have seen that... I remember the volume was lower on it compared to all other LPs.

So do they have some type of market research done showing that Petra's fan base will expand or are they just assuming and taking a shot in the dark?
