I have a high quality digital audio player, and I love being able to carry literally my entire music collection in one hand, or being able to instantly find any album I wish to listen to in seconds on my computer. I still buy the occasional CD, but I never listen to them directly. They get ripped to FLAC straight away and added to my collection.

And there is zero difference in sound quality between FLAC and CD. FLAC is true lossless compression and retains 100% of the original data. It is a bit perfect copy. All other things being equal, you will not hear any difference between a FLAC and a CD of the same song.

Well, that's your opinion and you know mine. Awesome. If what you're saying is true, then you'll have no problem with buying the CD and ripping it to FLAC so that I can have the media I'd prefer.

I like having the physical media even though I don't use it often. Just nice to have a physical collection of my favorite artists.

I listen to a podcast with Stephen Yake with 1 Degree Of Andy a week or so ago and it seems that a project is definitely in the works again. The funding is now there and Warner Brothers for distribution. If you have a chance give it a listen, several good tidbits about Petra mixed in and Bob writing new music.

Honestly, at the end of the day, it doesn't matter all that much, and I would definitely take what I could get, format-wise. I really miss Petra's music. Either way, though, it would seem silly to me for them to then have what is most likely their last release be digital only after having all their releases on some type of physical media. But, that's just me.

It is true. FLAC and CD audio are identical.

And you seem to have misunderstood me. I'm not against a physical release, but considering that a new Petra album is not likely to be a high volume seller, a less expensive (meaning more profitable) digital release just makes the most sense.

Of course the most probable scenario is that they'll do both: a limited edition CD along with a download-only version. Everybody wins.

Seems like it might be this one? It's already 4 months old.
