My Tribute To Petra

Post by bklockmiller » Thu Aug 04, 2005 12:46 am

IN REMEMBRANCE OF PETRA
- Billy Lockmiller

After reading the news that Petra was retiring, I wanted to write a tribute to the band but was afraid to, the music and ministry of Petra is a major part of my life, I know I can never give Petra the tribute they deserve but after a couple of months I have finally found the courage to give it a try and do so, so here it is

I guess it really is true; all good things must come to an end. But why? If it is so good, why does it have to come to an end? Let it live on and become even better. I just cant believe it, Petra has called it quits! The band that started so long ago is now coming to an end. Emotions are very high, tears are being shed, and minds are confused as the greatest band ever in Christian music comes to a close. Petra will bow out gracefully just like everything else they have done.

Truly, if it was not for Petra I doubt that I would be half the man of God I am today. Petras music and ministry has taught me so much in my walk with our Lord. I can never thank Bob Hartman and the band enough for what they have done for me. There will always be a special place in our hearts for Petra. When I first read the news that Petra was retiring, I cried for two hours, and cried myself to sleep that night. No matter how much I read about it, no matter how much I think about it I just cant seem to accept it, the thought Petra leaving us does not feel right at all. Petra still means so much to me and many other people around the world and we dont want to see Petra end.

This is not right! The band that made Christian music what it is have been despised and dismissed for many years after being loved by so many for so long. The industry that Petra made has turned their backs on their fellow brothers, this is not what God taught us to do. We as Christians are to unite and help each other out, were not suppose to hate each other and want each other dead! We are to be examples of love to the non-believing world.

Petras legacy has now come to an end, and we are sad. The band has given us thirty-three wonderful years of ministry, full of so many great memories. But we still have hope! The same mystical being that lead the band all those years will continue to guide and lead us throughout the years we have left. It has been a blessing to me and many others who have grown up listening to Petras music, and so we all join unison and say, Godspeed old friends, we will see you again one day on the other side. Thank you so much for everything!!

Awesome tribute. Perhaps you could put it on the Guide to Petra website, if you have not already. :D
