as promised...
i'm back...
Preacherman777 wrote:...some people would complain if there ice cream was cold. :?
dude.. ice cream gives you cavities....
and cavities make your teeth temperature sensitive...
and it hurts if your ice cream is cold...

but i do like head massages...
Brian wrote:That guy would have given a bad review no matter what the CD sounded like to him, according to his first sentence.
aw... that was a really horrible pun....
seriously had nothing to do with my thoughts on the album...
epdc wrote: this guy was going through a "male certain time of da month"
sure... how's that workin' out for you...?
superfly wrote:From this reviewer's opening statements, he probably wouldn't have liked any new CD with Petra's name on it.
hmm...
i actually do kinda like the CD...
i never said i didn't...
Michael wrote:from a marketing standpoint, [artistry] didn't sell.
yeah... that bothers me too...
but getting an album that's been dumbed down in the name of sales...
that bothers me more...
there are other ways...
superfly wrote:I was always baffled when reviewers would diss Petra comparing the whole "artistic" thing with bands like Sixpense or Jars of Clay. I would always think "if they want to here music like Sixpense and Jars, what the heck are they listening to Petra for anyway?"
first it's Sixpence not Sixpense....
also...
artistry is hardly void in "rock" music...
Project 86, for example, continues to put out very artistic releases...
superfly wrote:I think a lot of the CCM people have no clue what real rock-n-roll is
well i'll take that to mean you are including me in the "CCM people" group...
sorry, you're wrong...
Chuck Berry is rock-n-roll, right...
superfly wrote:Just like the reviewer from Barnes & Noble said, this is a great rock album!
well, s/he's trying to sell the CD...
i'm trying to honestly evaluate it from my perspective...
there is a BIG difference...
dfwpetrafan777 wrote:Opinions are like some things! Everyone has one! This kinda stuff is not worth talking about, and Jerry Springer might have a spot for him on his show.
yeah... thanks... but i'd keep my shirt on...
thanks for expressing your opinion that i am a shock jock reviewer...
i think you just don't know how to properly use the English language...
jasonf wrote:Obviously they do not want any feedback on their comments. Pity About that.I was going to reply to his review.
psst...
i came here because you guys were giving feedback and comments...
i posted to continue the discussion...
i provided my email address, AIM name and now also the channel of PM that you can feel free to contact me through...

well thanks for all the words kind or not...
i'll keep an eye on you guys...

Well

Post by bakersfieldpethead » Fri Nov 21, 2003 4:06 am

Well He's got guts

Like to see you come with me to the Black Hole in Oakland buddy.
Anyway.....So we're loyal fans. But the fact is, we know what we want to hear. And when other people or "The Powers that Be" state that it's not good enough, that they can speak for all of us saying that "FANS or other listeners won't get that, it's too old" When Radio says that they think they know what's best......then we get pushed a little out of shape....because we as fans are people and support a lot of those Radio Stations and support a lot of those Record Companies, and support a lot of those Stores...need I say more?

For cryin' outloud, yeah everyone has their own opinion...maybe I should post one on a website stating my thoughts on the whole cotton pickin music industry. Hey it will just be my opinion

Hey theTRu!

How cool of you to come out and reply! Hopefully you can forgive us for being a little... OK, for being WAAAAAAAY opinionated. The reason I posted the link was that I knew it would fuel a discussion, for the record, not specifically to draw fire to you, although that seems to be how it turned out. Found your site through a link to your review of !Hero, which I saw last night here in Tulsa.

Anyway, THANKS for stopping by! How did you find us... referrer server logs or something? :) I think it's good for us to get replies from the people we are... ahem... "commenting about" every once in a while. We need to get slapped into shape sometimes. Recently Bob Hartman himself posted on a topic here when we were getting a little crazy. ;) You sound like a nice enough person (your replies actually were nicer, or more diplomatic or less personal or whatever, than some of the posts you were replying to) and we welcome you joining us for discussions from time to time.

Have you heard Double Take? How would you rate that one on an "artistry" scale? In my opinion, that's maybe Petra's most artistic CD, although just about any Pethead will spit when they talk about that one (it's not a fan favorite AT ALL).

Double Take

Post by Preacherman777 » Fri Nov 21, 2003 10:07 am

Hey, Double Take is not all bad. It does after all make a good coffee table coaster. Or if one of legs on your coffee table breaks, you could use it to prop up the table. If you get bored, you can take out the disc and use it as a frizbee. Oh and if one of the cases break on one of your good Petra CD's, you can replace it with the case for DT. So come on, give it a break, it has it's uses. :D

I still love DT-yeah, it's not rock, but it's a good album, IMHO. I feel like a lot of us are forgetting how we thought of it when it first came out (although this is more of a problem with Revival-people are dissing it when they said they liked it before J&H came out).

And, one comment to the belaguered review guy-to his credit, he's come here to try to defend himself, and for that he's got my respect regardless of how much I disagree with his review:
aw... that was a really horrible pun....
I didn't like that pun, but trust me, it wasn't horrible. I've heard much, much worse. :P

There's not much in your review I can take issue with, really, since a review is an opinion, albeit one that's rather well written and reasonably thought out.

If I'm understanding the rating system you use correctly, the first two categories are out of 30, and the last two are out of 20, correct?
