Well, I studied video production in college and was a news photographer/editor for about 5 years before getting into standard production stuff where I worked on anything from 30 second commercials to one hour television specials and live concerts (writing, producing, directing, lighting, shooting, editing - you name it, I've done it.). I'm currently employed in a video ministry at a church where I co-produce and edit a weekly teaching program among other things as well as handle any in-house video needs of the church itself (our motto is "We don't do 'Christian television', we do good television that happens to be Christian!").sue d. wrote:Mountain Man, I'm just curious - are you an independent videographer or something like that? I would have loved to get in to that type of work.
All told, I've been working in video production for about 12 years, so I have some pretty strong opinions about how things should be done. Hope I haven't totally cheesed anybody off!

Well, I came home sick from work today and this is a nice diversion. It was so funny...my roommate watched the video with me and I kept saying, "Oh, there's Enosh...that's Jon Holtz...There's MJ... Oh, there's Sue and Tom. Yeah, the dvd will be a hoot to watch.
It's a nice promotional piece, but it seems like they are really stressing the Greg Volz participation. My roommate finally said after about 5 minutes, "Well is John going to actually sing anything?" I said yes, and told her she could look forward to him singing the whole thing in Dawsonville.
Then again, I could just be crabby from being sick and not getting my Farewell CD yet.

Well,
They were very smart. I mean if you want to promote something like this then you need to have someone really cute at the beginning. That's why I'm glad they put Jon Holtz there. You can't beat his smile can you?
Seriously...
I couldn't believe I was on that! That's awesome!! That really was an awesome concert! Can't wait for the DVD!!

Sounds like you have plenty of credentials and certainly a right to voice your professional opinion. All told, I've been working in video production for about 12 years, so I have some pretty strong opinions about how things should be done
Bridget, if it makes you feel any better - I can't view the video until I get home late tonight... and even then it'll be questionable, because my computer has issues with anything that isn't Windows Media player.
This moldy Mac I'm on now gives me a message that says "Unhandled File Type" - IE doesn't know how to handle this type of file."
OH WHATEVER!! It's a QUICK TIME file, isn't it? Isn't that what Macs specialize in? I know I have that on this machine..... stupid Mac.

I got the same thing, I had to right click and choose "save as" that let me download the file.
One question I have about the DVD. Has anyone confirmed that it will have more of the concert than the CD had? THings like JUdas Kiss and I Am A C? I love the farewell cd, but I'm just wondering if the plan is to include more content, or just use the exact cd mix and sync the video to that?
Please please please, put more of the crowd interaction, that's one of the things that has always been so cool about Petra's concerts, the little things that the band does here and there to work the crowd.

Re: ...
I asked John at the Irving show, and he was like I sure hope so. I'm thinking they would. History tells us that that is the case in most live CD/DVD combos.jared wrote:I got the same thing, I had to right click and choose "save as" that let me download the file.

I'm not sure....I had to try a couple of my email addys before one worked and I got in.
If you're desperate - use mine.
As long as we're all giving opinions on the promo, one thing that concerns me is that fact that three-fourths of the promo video features GREG and HIS songs.
I KNOW this is just a promo vid, but isn't this DVD supposed to be showcasing JOHN and the CURRENT Petra line-up?
Greg had his day with CITS... he was a "special guest" on this evening, and yet if you're watching the promo, you'd think that Greg was the main feature.
I understand that seeing Greg live again in a promo is marketing to the "old" Petra fan and will help to push sales, but I have a problem with how little John and "his era" music is shown.
When John finally is shown singing No Doubt (5 minutes into the promo) the camera cuts away to behind-the-scenes footage and audience shots....

Sue I think you're reading a little too much into this. The push as I see it is to re-connect with Petra fans in the widest possible array and for that purpose I think the decision to feature the acoustic set was perfect for that. I don't remember anything particularly about where the cut-away footage was. I think it was probably produced to give the best flow possible.
As far as I know the DVD is supposed to be showcasing Petra.
