Live Farewell CD, lead vocal removal easy!!

Post by beak » Sun Dec 11, 2005 1:26 am

For all you lead singers that search for accompaniment tracks of Petra, you can remove the lead vocal from the Farewell CD. Yes even live they recorded the vocal right in the middle, with the right equipment you can completely delete John's vocal leaving some of the instruments, including the crowd!! How cool, I'm having fun with this and may just come out of the shadows with this CD, singing it LIVE for myself. There are quite a few Petra albums that you can do this with. You can actually do this in a very crude fashion, try this for a taste, take the hot leads of your stereo output and put the neg and hot of one or both speakers into just the hots, no negs and play the cd, it will not sound the greatest but this is a very crude way without the correct vocal removal equipment, but you can get a taste. If you have a cd player seperate from your amp do the same, only input the hots and the vocals will be gone, of course you won't have any bass guitar but then again at least the vocal is gone! I actually have enough equipment to make back up tracks from the original cds, not perfect but acceptable. BEAK

Petra Tribute band

Post by beak » Mon Dec 12, 2005 10:17 pm

That's a great idea and I have suggested it a few years ago but no one was interested or they didn't believe I could sing just like John or Greg, but that's another story also and I don't want to go there.

I am very interested in getting a tribute band together but I live in Clinton Iowa and I do not know anyone that loves Petra enough to play like Bob Hartman or wants to commit to a band. I have an awsome drummer friend that I was in a band with and I have all the lights and sound still but no guitar player. This really takes a lover of the music to just be in a tribute band let alone get alone with other musicians. It's hard enough to find people that are christian musicians let alone get along great to commit. The previous band I was in was called Megiddo, way before the movie and the books. We had a conflict, everyone but the drummer wanted to sing and only two of us could be honest with ourselves that we truely were good at singing and that was my drummer friend (never wanted to sing) and myself. The other three guys wanted to write all the songs and sing every one of them. They honestly sounded completely awful. Once one of these guys sang their own song, during the first few minutes people got up and let, one put his fingers in his ears and left! Please believe me when I say humbly that that is not the case with me. I honestly can sing almost just like John Schlitt. I was removing the vocal yesterday on some Petra tracks and was not able to remove John's voice on one, my son yelled down, "hey dad! you need to stop singing and come up from the basement now!" I was right behind him. Beak
