Fav Volz songs poll #2 (Come Out Fighting)

Post by greenchili » Thu Mar 02, 2006 1:05 am

Double poll this week guys (and gals ;) ) so be sure to check em both out.

With the recent ending of Petra's music ministry I thought it'd be kind of interesting to start a series of polls on favorite songs. Starting with their first album and working to the last. I figured I'd do an album each week.

This poll is the Greg X. Volz's branch of my polls. Since I know there are a handful of Greg fans I figured I'd at least do this one. So for those interested, get out your GXV CD's and start listening. Do it now!! Listening is NOT optional!!! ;)

Voting for last weeks album "The River Is Rising" with a total of 7 voters is completed. Here are the results.

Break Out Of The Trance [2]
Barrier [1]
Livin' For The Bell [1]
All I Can Do [1]
Hold On To The Fire [1]
Joyous Grave [0]
Still Waters [0]
Heaven Is Within You [0]
The River Is Rising [0]
Man Like You [0]

The song that came out on top is "Break Out Of The Trance" and a four way tie  for "Barrier", "Livin' For The Bell", "All I Can Do", and "Hold On To The Fire". I guess with the small amount of voters the GXV polls are gonna be a little skewed.

Moving along we now have "Come Out Fighting" which was released in 1988.

I don't know much about this one except that I do not really like it. I think JDB was looking for a certain sound and he may of got it. But it just reminds me too much of 80's radio which was just, well, blah..

This is the one Volz album I do not have on CD.
Most of you oughta recognize the Aerosmith cover on here.

For anyone interested you can actually pick up Greg's solo albums (with the exception of this one) at his website. In addition to listening to some clips of the songs.

I voted for the title track. It's been years since I've heard any of these songs; mainly because I lost my copy of it(cassette). I remember that, as a whole, I liked this album.

This is the only GXV solo album I've ever had or listened to. I really didn't like it overall a whole lot, but I did like the song Come Out Fighting. Geoff Moore also did that song on his Place to Stand album. Now that was a fun album: Come Out Fighting, Go to the Moon, Everything Heart and Soul.

You just named two Geoff Moore songs I really liked. I thought "Come Out Fighting" sounded familar.

FWIW this album is the only Greg X Volz album with that sound. His first was more like a logical continuing of petra and the three after this one were similar (except maybe less synthesizers).

You can check out his website for clips of his other albums (for some reason this one is absent). See link above.

I never even knew about this album until about 5 years ago. Not really sure how I missed it. Anyways that may explain my dislike of it. It's just too 80's radio for me.

What's funny is I missed this one and Mylon LeFevres "Up" album. Both which were stinkers as far as I was concerned. I found out about "Up" a few years back as well.

Although I've kinda slacked on it a little a couple years back I was concentrating on finding older CCM artists that I may have overlooked over the years. Mostly because alot of the stuff out now is just bleh..

I forgot to mention Geoff Moore and the Distance's song Londontown off of that same album. On his next album, Foundations, he had a song called "Hey Jimmie". My Christian friends and I always liked the song because it's my name, and I spell it the same way.

I saw Geoff Moore in concert once, and it was good. But the thing I found funny about it was that he changed wardrobes like after every song. In one of the posts, someone talked about doing the bands' laundry. Can you imagine having to do it for Geoff Moore on a night like this.

I saw Geoff Moore when he had gone solo and was touring with Steven Curtis Chapman. What was funny about it was Steve had gotten to the middle part of his concert where he does the slow acoustic stuff so a bunch of teens started leaving the room to go to the lobby. I guess they wanted to browse around while he did the slow stuff (which I thought was kinda rude). As soon as Steve said "I'd like to welcome my good friend Geoff Moore" it was like this big stampede of teens came running thru as they all scrambled to get back in. It was actually pretty funny in a way.

On another note I was at some christian fest at an amusement park and nichole nordman was playing (she's pretty good). The whole time during her concert the crowd was fairly small and people were talking ALL THE TIME, which I also thought was rude. When she was done and Steven Curtis Chapman came on it's like all a sudden it got quiet and people started showing up. I tell you one thing the guy may be getting older, and despite the above mentioned incident, still draws a crowd.

Anyways assuming the attendees to some extent were christians, they sure are an odd bunch.

This poll is done... Here are the results

Dream On (Aerosmith cover) [5]
I Come Out Fighting [4]
I Don't Know Why [0]
Take Me Too The End [0]
Let The Mountains Fall [0]
What Will Remain [0]
Back Burner [0]
Will You Take Me Back [0]
I Know You By Heart [0]
Up To The Mountain [0]

"Dream On" barely squeeks by with the win at 5 votes, and "I Come Out Fighting" with all the remaining votes of 4. All the rest, well I guess they ended up on the "Back Burner".

Thanks for participating.
