How do the used CD shops work? Very rarely do I buy a new CD, I buy most of my music from a used CD place right down the street and they have a very large CCM selection. The owner of the store says probably 40% of his sales are from young Christian kids coming in for the CCM. I've bought 4 brand new CD's since 2001 and all were Petra except for one. I'm sorry but I will do everything in my power to not let the record companies get my money. I remember a couple of years ago my Senator from Texas John Cornyn said that record companies are the most corrupt organization in the US and most lawmakers classify them in with the Mob. He also went on to say that they deserve all the piracy issues because on how they handle their businesses.

That's the pot calling the kettle black, eh? Our givernment is like the mob. The government can take our property, change our history, change our constitution, lie to us, steal our money (taxes were to be temporary and ARE unconstitutional). That senator must not be getting any of the lobbiest dollars from the RIAA.executioner wrote:I remember a couple of years ago my Senator from Texas John Cornyn said that record companies are the most corrupt organization in the US and most lawmakers classify them in with the Mob. If you've been to South America, you know that most people do not have internet access at home. They access the internet primarily through cafes or at a university.brent wrote:34 Million people have access to the internet and can download it from iTunes. The spanish version of J&H was available on iTunes long before the english version was.epdc wrote:The petra praise in spanish is VERY HARD TO GET IN MEXICO and the jecklyll and hyde is not even in the country, i have it because a pethead gave me an original as a present.
Get used to internet distribution. It is the way 90% of ALL music is sold. One day direct artist to listener purchasing will be the norm. No more middle man.
Ignoring the fact that making purchases through an internet cafe is unsafe and won't work well if you're trying to amass a personal library, the bigger problem is how to PAY for an online transaction.
Most services use a credit card. Most South Americans I know don't have one and can't get one.

Brent have you ever been done to Mexico or Central-South America? It's a different world down there buddy. I've been to Mexico alot because my wife is from Puebla and even the middle class to rich have a very difficult time getting things like music and other entertainment material that is produced and manufactured in the US. It's not as easy as 1 2 3!

THANK YOU GUYS!!!!!!
Look, im not agree with bootlegs i mean, if you ask me i prefer original and i try to buy originals when i can, but sometimes is just not possible because the cd is unavailable in my country or is way too expensive and as someone said, i wont buy a very expensive cd for just one song so sometimes i need to get a copy.
and believe it or not, you have no idea of how many mexican people has been blessed through petra when they got to hear a copy of a cd. they still were blessed and thats what matters to me.
ya know, coldplay said once in an interview in mexico something just before finishing an interview: hey, and ummm buy our cds but if you dont have the money or just cant get it here download it or make a copy, is not fair you dont get to hear our music just because you are not able to :p
for me, the wrong thing would be if i were able to get the stuff very easy and still get a copy ya know.
if you wanna know, im gonna send a pethead the money for the petra dvd, i dont want a bootleg copy!

I have been there. I used to do service calls to night clubs down there. I have been there for vacation. Libraries PAY for the materials they loan out.
Loaning isn't the problem. Illegal COPIES are.....and I would venture a guess that MOST copies are illegal.
Please guys quit guess about what you can and can't do and just read what the law says
http://www.copyright.gov
I will never understand why Christians feel SO entitled to things. Just because you want something.....even REALLY want something, it doesn't mean you are going to get or even should get it. Even if that something is a good wholesome thing like a Petra Video, or cd.
The Bible talks about this very thing....coveting what you do not have.
I am sorry guys, I know you are all wonderful people and I enjoy your posts and info about my favorite band, but you also proclaim Christ. And I can not believe that I see sooo many posts about "why it is ok for ME to copy." and "I don't have to follow this rule or that".
Get a grip! Are you willing to tarnish your witness over a cd?

That is all good and everything but have you ever tried to distribute media material in those areas? It is next to impossible to get it in the right hands; There are very distributors that know how to work the system right to get the job done.brent wrote:I have been there. We distribute PDC there now. Many of our pre orders were from ther via paypal. So, like I said, you have to get out of your sphere and look around. People down there ARE actively buying on the web, and are thinking outside of the box.executioner wrote:That is all good and everything but have you ever tried to distribute media material in those areas? We licensed to CBA distributors there. We hold the master. They tell us what they want to sell and we charge them for those copies. We are paid a flat fee up front. I got my money! We have been burned by theft there. Some services do not obtain a signature, and drop at the door. We learned who not to use quickly.
We have been on radio that covers a good junk of the airwaves there. Sometimes you have to think about non-polished means to get the word out. Labels try to use the glossy ways. We went ministry minded.

Online Digital Music Revolution...
Actually, that day may be here today. Read up on the new online digital download store 'Burnlounge' that has been featured everywhere from Billboard magazine to Ted Nugent's website. Whether you're Madonna or Joe with a 4 track EP single, your music can be ingested into the Burnlounge catalog (via non-exclusive agreements, mind you... unless you're Metallica) where anyone with Internet access and a debit card (credit cards are the devil!) can download your song for a buck, or your album for ten bucks. The artist gets anywhere from 40 to 70 percent of the proceeds (pending that artist's negotiations with Burnlounge), which is pretty darn good.Get used to internet distribution. It is the way 90% of ALL music is sold. One day direct artist to listener purchasing will be the norm. No more middle man.
It's completely going to level the playing field between Indie and nationally signed artists and the founders of Burnlounge believe it will be the means in which for the first time, a band achieves platinum status without ever having a record deal. In fact, a California Christian rock band called Press Play has been in Burnlounge's top 5 most downloaded list for 5 weeks... maybe 20,000+ downloads or something? Not a bad chunk of change for an Indie band at 40 to 70 percent...
Check it out!
Hope everyone is having a great week...

These things have started before. Any band in the world can get onto iTunes via CD Baby. iTunes has 83+% of the marketshare.Historymaker wrote:Actually, that day may be here today. Absolutely right... and that 83% is based on people who have ever downloaded music on the Internet. The other side of that (and I would imagine the origin of Burnlounge's growth/marketing mentality) is that 9 out of 10 people (that's 90%) in America have never downloaded a song off the Internet at all.
That's the market segment Burnlounge is going after... as more and more people start becoming 'digitized' and more than 10% of the population is downloading music, maybe that 83% Itunes market will drop. Maybe it will stay the same. Maybe it will grow. Time will tell...
Admittedly, Burnlounge is not even a year old (not even a half year, really) and is still in Beta version... I've made a modest amount of coin, so no skin off my nose either way...

ok crossways
lets pretend you want to get the onfire video BUT you cant find it anywhere!!!!!, is like, nobody sells it anymore. And a person tells ya that is willing to sell you a copy. Would you say "Oh Im sorry but Im loyal to the band and to the law so i wont have the video"?
Look, understand, Im agree with you, I believe that when you buy a copy of something you are stealing money from the singer or band ya know, I totally believe that. If you ask me, I try as much as I can to get the original stuff and most of time I do, BUT sometimes I have found myself that theres a material that is not being sell in my country so what I do? if somebody can sell me a copy, I take it and is not gonna be like my fault, but my government fault for not having the material available.
and well, you all talk about internet sales, since is very common in the united states. Wish it were that common here in Mxico. as Josh said, not many people have their personal computer with internet and for the ones that we do have that, we are not used to internet sales and most us dont have a clue of how that works.
If we talk about the few people that has a computer with internet connections, we dont buy through internet because of cultural reasons. I mean, we are not used to it and we are always like mmmm ya know, we dont trust on it. We all think the website might steal our money or that we wont receive what we expected. Is kinda silly I know, but thats how we think. I have a friend that buys stuff through internet. and ya know what a few people do? they give him the money in cash and he buys the stuff!!!! see, we are not ready yet for that "internet selling".
and also if we add the fact that not many people have credit cards thats another thing.
